What do you use for your ponytail? About the only thing I've found that doesn't pull my hair are these ties that are really thin when you stretch them. They're almost lighter than air and you don't give you that 'my hair is pulled back' feeling. They come in a bag of assorted colors but I pick out the black ones. Unfortunatly, the label was thrown away after I bought them or I would pass on that information.
I just use regular medium-thickness ones. I want to get some Scunci's soon though.
These work well and they do not have the little metal band in them.

I use the Scunci for thick hair ties. The ones without the metal clip. They do their job very well.

They're Goody Slip Proof Hold ties that don't have metal on them. They're the best hair-ties I've found, and they come in a set of 8 with black and brown for $3 or so.
I use these.
That's an interesting variation on the segmented tail. Looks good though.
Keeps the hair off my face when needed, hehe

I think this is the type I use. The bottom set with the darker and earthy and less vibrant colors (like dark reds and blues and browns).

I've had a funny time with these--I've probably tried at least half a dozen different types. Nothing was right. They would be too big, or too slippery, or both until at last I found a type that worked. they are kind of fat, elastic but only 2 or 3 cm diameter and fuzzy so they grip. I found them at a store chain called Clare's. Well guess what, right away they got discontinued and I could no longer find them for sale. It also turned out they would fly out of my pockets. They would cling to things like glasses, or roll up and out with my hands when I was getting something else out and I wouldn't notice when they fell out. So I have four of these things left now and I treat them like they are the keys to my house or something else important. I lost another one last weekend and it really pissed me off. Anyone who has never had long hair would think this is crazy; I would have thought all hair ties are the same.
I lucked out at the Dollar sale bins at my local CVS store, and bought a bag of 48 assorted color small velour hair fasteners. The bag costs a buck, plus I found a set of three stretch-lace headbands for a $1 as well. I like the velour fabric ones. They are mostly soft cloth, with very little elastic. The bag has a mix of primary and pastel colors, plus black. So some of them would have worked well for a guy's hair.
Another nice thing about the fabric ties, they are washable, should something get in them, and your hair. And now I have every color under the sun, for nearly everything I wear, which is basically jeans, twills, and cotton shirts and tee's. Any stretchable fastener that does not contain metal, or exposed elastic, is safe. And the color choices vary, so guys aren't stuck with canary yellow or cotton-candy pink.

I use the slightly bigger ones, because my hair is too thick for the small ones. The bigger ones have a little more elasticity to them and they easily fit around your wrist without cutting off your circulation. When my hair was really long, I would sometimes use a scrunchie at the top and use the others spaced out about 3-4 inches down the ponytail. I usually had to use the small one for the tie at the end.
I get mine at Target, but they can be found anywhere. Just make sure you don't get any that have metal on them.
Take care and keep it growin'!
