Hello people,
I read somewhere, maybe it was here, that there are Vitamins for nails and hair growth. I wonder if that actually works and how. Also I want to know whats the main product of hair growth vitamins, is it vitamin C, betacaroten, whats the formula?. That's because I can find almost any kind of dietetic suplement on the groceries and drugshops but I haven't found a "hair growth" supplement.
Thanks.
Res.-
I looked at a few of the hair vitamin formulations last winter and my conclusion (flawed perhaps) was that they are basically multivitamins with a large dose of biotin. Since I was already getting a multivitamin boost every day I saved some money by getting a biotin only supplement and started taking 3 mg of that daily.
Rob,
You see any difference when taking the biotin?.
No, not really.
You will not find a hair-specific pill. Nothing will make hair grow faster, only how well you can forget about the time will make it seem like its growing faster.
However, I take "Hair, Skin & Nail" every few days and I notice an immediate increase in natural hair oil. I only take it every 3 or 4 days because through trial and error I have found that taking it an more frequent then that makes my hair look like an oil slick. This makes my hair easier to brush, reducing breakage, which in-turn makes it seem like my hair is growing faster.
The biggest advantage is the natural oils. You just need to play around with how frequent you take it to regulate oil production.
By the way, mine boasts "more biotin". I have tried a few that didnt have quite as much biotin and I was unsatisfied with the results.
sorry for the long post.

Hi Res..
Clayton is exactly right. There is no vitamin that will help your hair grow any faster than it already does.. However; not getting enough vitamins can have an adverse effect on hair and many other parts of the body..
Taking too much of a certain vitamin, such as Biotin, or any other can have some bad side effects as well ... so be very careful in exceeding the RDA (recommended daily allowance) as indicated by the FDA. Anything your body doesn't absorb will ultimately be excreted by the body in one form or another..
Hope this helps ...
Tristan
Hair grows because cells die. That simple. The only proven growth enhancement for nails is gelatin. It has never been proven to have any effect on hair.
Anyway, 2 years and growing - well it will be two in Nov :)

Hey Stevie, Great Hair! Mine is long but I think I need something ofr a llittle bit of gray, and I do mean allittle LOL Keep it up and looks good Take care!
Excellent achievement for two yrs, Stevie. Keep it goin' and growin'! May I also offer selenium and mixed tocopherols as good youthifiers, yeah, youthifiers, which couldn't hurt the effort of hair growth, BTW. Not the acetate version, though. That's synthetic and hence not as beneficial. I've been takin' 'em for decades. Not faster hair growth, just stronger hair.
Yours in supplementation and longhaired camaraderie,
Quenyan
I know that many say that vitamins have no effect on hair growth. I've seen, from experience, that my wife's hair and nail growth triples while she's pregnant and on pre-natal vitamins. However, this could also be because she's pregnant and producing growth hormones of her own.
For the record men shouldn't take prenatal vitamins (probably obvious to most guys, but there are probably some people out there going, "Hmmm, I wonder..."). They contain more iron then even the average non-pregnant woman needs, let alone the average man. Iron is toxic in high doses [at least when it comes from supplements], so leave the prenatal vitamins to the pregnant ladies. :-)
Mouse (who is lucky to remember to take a basic multivitamin most days)
Biotin and B complex vitamins seem to be the important ingredients in all of those "Hair Growth Vitamins." I have taken those a lot (in fact, I'm taking them right now,) but I've never seen much difference in how fast my hair grows. I figure it can't hurt. Eating TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) on a daily basis, seems to make my hair grow much faster. This may be the soy protein, or the B vitamins they're fortified with. I don't know what's in them that pushes it along so much, but it's my best advice.

Yeah, it's really a matter of hormonal health and genetics. I make mention of that in the Repetitively Asked Questions page.
