Anyone have anything to say about henna? Good news? Bad news?
Is it permanent, or does it wash out?
I know others who use a neutral henna. What is that? Is it beneficial in some way?
My grandmother uses reddish Henna to colour her hair.
She says it's better for your hair than the chemical colours...
I believe Henna, a natural vegetable/plant-based dye, is fairly permanent. Though there are methods used thatr supposedly can strip Henna, they tend to leave brassy residue.
Neutral Henna is actually Cassia. It imparts no color, except in some blondes, it may impart a golden hue. Cassia has the same conditioning and glossing effects as true Henna does.
There are websites, such as Henna for Hair, that can inform you about Henna. Over at LHC (Long Hair Care) Forum (where several MLHH members also post), there are threads devoted to the use of Henna and Cassia.

Carol is right. I'd also like to add that there are henna mixes that give other colours, but they all have a red base from the henna, and some of them contain metal salts that react with chemical dyes to cause damage. Of course, that's not a problem if you never use synthetic dyes, nor if you use ones that contain herbs only. I use a 'brown henna' that says it contains only herbs, although it doesn't actually say just what is in it, LOL!
