Greeting all.
I am a regular (lurker). I have been growing my hair for 14 months and so far have not experienced an 'awkward phase' as such. My hair is almost to my shoulders now and it has become completely wild! I t is about 40% curly.
I am going to straighten it - in the hopes that it will be easier to get it a bit longer. I can live with the curl when it is longer.
My question is which is the least damaging for your hair. A Flat iron? Chemical straightening? I am not growing my hair extremely long. Juts to my shoulders (enough to all reach my pony tail). I would assume that a flat iron is worse but I'm clueless...
Thanks everyone!
both of these methods are extremly damaging. your best bet is to just stick it through for another few months. chemical straighteneng can last for six months, but is has the effect of damaging the hair follicles permenently. (you can find that your hair starts coming in in a different color pr texture after having it done.) flat irons are 'safer' per se, but still uber damaging. just suck it up and deal with it for a little bit longer.
peace,
nic
What about straightening once or twice a week. With a preotector? I bought the Loreal one?
still damaging. the heat, even with protectors and extra conditioner, will cause aplit ends. which will of course result in needing a cut. at the point you are already, just stick it through. it won't be that long until you reach full tailing length.
Go with the iron. It's still damaging in the long run, but if used sparingly (say once a week or whatever), you may just need a small trim after some time for split ends. Be sure to use a protecting spray or oil with it.
My advice to you (as it was so eloquently stated to ME by a dear friend): ROCK the curls! People pay hundreds of dollars to get their hair to look like yours! Don't go and change it!
Try a bit of oil. Tames the frizz and, to a small degree, the curls.
