Hi everyone,
First of all, thank you to everyone who earlier replied to my first set of Nova Scotia photos which I posted late last week.
Sorry if I seem to be "advertising" my province a little bit these days, but I just wanted to share a little more of what my province has to offer in the way of natural beauty. Of course, the fall is my favourite time of year, and this fall has been exceptional, bright sun, and warm temperatures. (It has cooled in the past 2 or 3 days, however.)
Sorry, there is not much hair here in these photos, only a ponytail or two!
Here is a photo of me by a secluded stream, close to my golf course. My ponytail appears a bit shorter than usual, due to my hair being a bit curlier that day.
Here is another one of that same stream.
Here is another stream, in a different part of the course, with more fall colours present. The maples always have the brightest red colours.
Another photo of me, by that stream.
Here is the inlet where that stream leads to a larger lake, which can be seen in the right hand portion of this photo.
Here is one view of that lake.
Here is the same lake, from a different angle.
Hopefully, you will like these latest photos of my province in eastern Canada. Of course, any visitors to my province are warmly welcomed, and I would be delighted to show you around!
Are you sure your a scientist and not a travel agent :)
Those are spectacular pictures David, you are lucky to live in such a beautiful province. I love the trees the water everything. Your trees are about a month ahead of ours (at least) in terms of turning colors. It is cool to see what we have to look forward to. I love red maple leaves and I am not even Canadian!
David you mentioned a big tour of the US in 2009, are you going to explore more of Canada to that you haven't seen then too? That alone would probably take all your time, such a huge country of unspoiled wilderness!
Thanks for the pictures David I feel like I just took a nice relaxing walk and I haven't left the computer lol
Take care :)
PS The hair is cool too but even yours can't outshine Mother Nature :)
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your wonderful comments about my latest photos of Nova Scotia in the fall. These pictures were taken about a half hour from town, and the trees in the country are several days faster to lose their leaves than in the city. I guess you are still getting heat and hunidity down your way, but it has turned much cooler here in the past few days. Last week was very warm.
As for my road trip in 2009, my current route is down the east coast as far as Georgia (hoping to meet you as I pass through Maryland), then west across the southern tier to California, then north to Washington, possibly crossing the border into BC. My return trip east will be either through the northern USA or southern Canada, and will probably go around the southern perimeter of the great lakes. Most of the expanse of Canada will have to wait for another trip at a future time, as Canada is HUGE!
Take care,
David
Nice shots of New Scotland, David. (And that guy in the pics has some decent hair, too!).
If ever I am out that way, I would surely contact you in advance.
All the best.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Hi Shawn,
It is great to see you again, my fellow Canadian, and thank you for all the compliments! Of course, I would be delighted to show you around my fair province if you get out my way.
Take care,
David
Amazing pictures David and you have some really great scenery in your part of the world.
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John,
Thank you for all your kind words, and I agree that I feel blessed to be in this beautiful part of the world. Hopefully, you will have a chance to fly overseas sometime!
Cheers,
David
Beautiful pictures David, we are not quite at your point in terms of autumnal colours yet, but this weekend I intend on visiting the National Arboretum and checking out mother nature. Thanks for posting these great images.
Regards Dave
Hi Dave,
I appreciate all your kind comments of my pictures of Nova Scotia in the fall. Fall is one of my favourite times of year.
It is interesting that the colours are later out in England than they are here, as your country is farther north than Nova Scotia. We have had some very warm weather recently, with next to no rain. However, the weather has turned markedly cooler over the past 2 or 3 days, and should remain fairly cool all week.
Take care,
David
Beautiful imagery! Whoever snapped those photos truly has an amazing talent at capturing mother nature at it's best. Once again, You amaze us with a remarkable set of photos depicting the apparently amazing golf course in the province of Eastern Canada. Outstanding! Thank you very much for sharing these fantastic photos with us.
Keep them coming,
Chris H
P.S The hair is looking amazing as usual!
Hi Chris,
I am delighted that you had a chance to see these photos that I took of Nova Scotia in the fall, and thank you for your kind words. I took most of these photos, but the ones of me were taken by another guy in my foursome. I don't consider myself THAT good at photography, I just happened to be fortuante enough to have Nova Scotia's beauty as my canvas.
Perhaps one day, when you wish a respite from the Miami heat and humidity, you may even wish to visit my fair province. I would be delighted to serve as tour guide!
Take care,
David
Hi David those are outstanding nature photos! You live in a very beautiful area as the only drawback I could find would be the cold weather during the winters.I'm definately not into cold, freezing weather but I do appreciate what Canada has to offer. My only trip north of the border was to Montreal for an F1 race a little over a year ago but that mainly was the city that I saw. Just over a month ago I took a trip out to western PA to see some of Frank Lloyd Wright's famous homes he designed for very rich people. The settings were absolutely stunning as maybe you should check them out Mark
Here is another cool pic from a back meadow of the Frank Lloyd Wright home known as Kentuck Knob also in PA. See David you got me going now on the nature pics!LOL. Of course the post wouldn't be complete without mentioning that your ponytail looks fantastic:)Mark
Hi Mark,
Thank you for all your kind words about my photos, and in your other post, your kind words about my ponytail. I really wanted to share some of Nova Scotia's beauty with my fellow hyperboard members, and the fall is the perfect time to do so! I admit that I despise the winter months and early springs here, and loathe the cold and snow.
These are beautiful photos you took of your part of the world as well. I am delighted to have inspired you, as guys like Jason, James, and Tristan have inspired me with their nature photos.
Take care,
David
Hi all,
The Falling Water House is one of my reasons for visiting the U.S !
Adalbert
Just lovely !! For something completely different, expect some desert Autumn photos in a month or so....
Hi Walter,
Thank you for your kind words, and I am definitely looking forward to your "desert" photos!
Take care,
David
David, your outstanding photographs continue to remind me of the beauty and solace of nature. I will be in the Ozarks next week, perhaps I can return the favor with some pictures of Arkansas-ian foliage and mountain streams. I will be happy if they turn out half as good as yours are.
Hi Allen,
Thak you for your kind comments about my photos. I am flattered to have served as an inspiration to you, as so many of my fellow LHC members have inspired me with their photos, Jason being a notable example.
I will be eagerly awaiting your photos of the Ozarks!
Take care,
David
Hi David
Wow.........these photos are even more outstanding than were the last set which were breathtaking enough. How lucky you are to be living where you are. Just gorgeous!
Just about enough for me to want to move my tent from where I am to the San Jaun Islands or even Vancouver BC if it were at all possible. And..........I would still be on the west coast! :-)
Thanks ever so much for posting these spectacular photos.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Tahnk you, as always, and I am delighted that you had a chance to see what my fair province has to offer.
Perhaps one day you may even wish to move to BC. I know that Victoria gets almost no snow, and the summers are considerably cooler than the part of Oregon you live in. I have never been to BC, but hope to see some of it on the return portion of mt road trip.
Take care,
David
Greetings Dave, thanks for sharing those great pics. I don't think my attempt the first time to respond to this worked...
What fine scenery around there. I do hope to make it up there sometime. I miss that eastern folliage. We have some around here but nothing like those brilliant maples and oaks, etc.
Take care,
Max
Hi Max,
Thank you for your wonderful comments on my photos, and am glad that you liked them. I would be delighted if you made it to my part of the world sometime!
Take care,
David
(Jaw hits ground, before I pass out with a thud) There's a little bit of Vermont and Maine there, the breathtaking scenery is quite similar. Maple trees mean maple syrup, my favorite over blueberry pancakes. I noticed some ferns in the pics too, with the fronds also changing color. Alas, Maryland is still too annoyingly hot, and cloyingly sticky. We are supposed to get a brief respite here (ha!), but another hot spell will follow. WTH! What happened to Fall? We have been running 15 to 20 degrees farenheit above normal here.
While I love being by the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, New England is calling me. Once my mother is gone, I will be here alone, and I don't really think I want to stay. I have family in Souheastern, PA, and in New Jersey, and in New England, as well as in Canada itself. ( I am French-Canadian and Iroquois Mohawk on my Father's side). Your home looks truly like Heaven on Earth. I'm moving somewhere, just don't know where yet. Mom is 80 (Dad passed away last year), and I hope to have her around a bit yet. I envy you living is such a paradise.
Carol
PS still need to email you, getting over some crazy viral infection. Hope your Canadian Thanksgiving weekend was great.
PPS You in your golf gear, and ponytail, looks so small and cute among all those vast trees. Just how tall are you? I am a measely 4 ft 11 3/4 inches, DaveDecker has longer hair, than I am tall.
Hi Carol,
First of all, I am so sorry to hear that you have had a viral infection, and hope it clears up quickly.
As I said to you in my reply to your earlier post, feel free to use the hyperboard mailer to email me anytime, or you can send me a private message over at the LHC, where you are also a member, since you mentioned you have some more questions for me in your earlier post. I am looking forward to hearing from you, when you are feeling up to it.
Of course, I really appreciate all your wonderful comments! Nova Scotia has a lot to offer in the way of beauty, but I have to be honest and say that the winters have alot to be desired. Hopefully, you can get up my way sometime!
I am genuinely sorry to hear about the loss of your dad, my deepest condolences to you. I will pray that your mom blesses your life for many more years. I lost my mom (age 80) in 1997, and my dad (age 79) in 1998. That is VERY cool that you have Canadian roots.
I am of average height myself, just a shade over 5'9", and my weight is slightly below average for my height. I think the trees and the perspective of that photo makes me appear smaller.
My very best to you, and take care,
David
Hi again, Carol,
I got your email this AM. I will try to answer your questions as best as I can later on, when I get home from work. I cannot say I know the answers to all your questions, but I will do the best I can.
Take care,
David
Hi, David,
Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures of nature (and hair)! Being from Mississippi, forests full of deciduous trees are not so common, so I welcome the sight of any full-colour foliage.
Novia Scotia has been on my to-visit list (as has P.E.I.) since reading the Anne of Green Gables series as a child (and..er..over the summer). Now I am more sure than ever that I want a look for myself!
Tracy
This should, of course, be Nova Scotia.
Well, I've been more intrigued since seeing the excellent production on PBS Wonderworks years ago, which was actually filmed on location in Nova Scotia and PEI. So much of the land up there remains unchanged from the period which Ann of Green Gables is based, that they were able to film there, and keep the scenery and such authentic. I was just amazed at the pristine beauty there, especially upon viewing the documentary accompanying the Wonderworks series, which gave the backround of the locations in which they filmed, as well as how they came about casting then college student Megan Followes to play Ann. If you have not seen this, you should. The PBS Wonderworks series was very faithful to the books.
Carol
I have not seen any of the dramatisations of the book series, simply because I like remembering the characters/scenes as I first read them, but the Wonderworks series seems definitely something to try to see. Thanks for the information!
Tracy
Hi Tracy,
It is great to see you again, it has been a while since I have seen you on the hyperboard. Thank you for all your kind comments about my photos of my fair province. Hopefully you can get up to where I live sometime, and I would be delighted to show you around. PEI is our next door neighbour, and there is now a causeway linking it to the mainland, via eastern New Bruswick. Of course, the ferry can also be taken to get to PEI as well, from NE Nova Scotia.
Take care,
David
Greetings David..
No need to apologize for the "advertisement". There is absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of where you live my friend.
Fall is one of my favorite times of the year as well.. I love the red of the Maple trees in your photos ... especially with the steam in the picture. - Very natural and tranquil feeling.
I eventually would like to come check out Canada.. especially the Canadian Rockies ... as you can well understand.. but all of it would be splendid to see..
Thanks for posting ... feel free to post more if you'd like ... us natural guys have to stick together you know... :)
Be Blessed..
Tristan
ps. Your ponytail looks great!
Hi Tristan,
I am very pleased that you had a chance to see my photos of Nova Scotia in the fall. I have always been inspired the the beauty of your photos of your home state of Colorado, and felt it was time to share a little of waht my province has to offer.
Of course, it would be wonderful if you got out my way sometime. My home is a long ways from Colorado, but I have been to the Canadian Rockies. I lived for 4 1/2 years in Calgary, from late 1957 to early 1962. I got back to Calgary for a scientific conference in 1999, and made a point of re-visting the street that I used to live on all those years ago.
Thank you again for all your kind words about my photos, and about my ponytail.
Take care,
David
We always enjoy your pictures, David, keep theme coming! You certainly live in a beautiful province and it's nice to not only see more of it but also see some hair photos in these natural settings. Thanks for sharing these.
Jason
Hi Jason,
Thank you for your kind words about my latest photos of my beautiful province. In fact, I have always been inspired by your outdoor photos. I always wear my hair in a tail while out golfing. Sometime, I will have to find a location where I would have my hair loose and take pictures in natural surroundings. Unfortuantely, I am not within walking distance of such a location, as I live in the city. Perhaps I can find a quiet spot in the country to take some photos.
The colours are changing quickly now, and the weather has turned cooler and more damp as well. Hopefully, we will still be blessed with more sunny, warm, fall days in Nova Scotia.
Take care,
David
Hi David,
Great pictures, and all joking aside, you might want to consider working with the Nova Scotia Tourism Office part-time after you retire! You'd probably be a great tourism promoter as you probably know a lot about your fair province.
I hope I can get up that way some day. I've always wanted to visit PIE too. I had a trip planned out one year for the summer to do the Northeastern US and Southeastern Canada, but never could get away.
Sorry, PEI! Prince Edward Island...
Hi Matt,
I am very happy that you liked my photos of my fair province, and appreciate your comments. I have no claims to having any skills in the tourism industry or anything, just the natural beauty of the place I call home speaks for itself. Ironically, I have never been to Cape Breton (several hours' drive NE of Halifax), but that will be a high priority once I retire.
I have also been to PEI (HA!!! I noticed your spelling error, but you DOD catch it, lol!), a few hours' drive north of Nova Scotia. Hopefully, you can find the time to get out to eastern Canada sometime. It is a graet way to escape the heat and humidity down in Georgia.
Take care,
David
"DID", "not "DOD" !!!
Beautiful fall colors in those pictures, David. Thanks for sharing!
Mouse
Hi Mouse,
Thank you for your kind words, and I was delighted to share these photos with everyone on the hyperboard.
Take care,
David
What a beautiful setting, David, to display your ponytail!
You are blessed to live in such a beautiful place. On a vacation with my mother-in-law when she was 81, she said Nova Scotia's fall foliage was the prettiest she had ever seen. She had spent her entire life in New England, so she knew beautiful foliage when she saw it. We've been all over the U.S. and Canada, and we've never seen anything in the West to compare with what you all get back East.
Actually, California's prettiest season by far is spring. We get rain all winter but none in the summer, so everything is lush and green in springtime, and flowers abound by the millions. In the fall, after six months of no rain, everything is dead and brown here.
Those of us in California look forward to seeing you in 2009, whatever season brings you here!
Bill in San Francisco
Hi Bill,
I am SO pleased that you had a chance to see my pictures of Nova Scotia in the fall, probably my favourite time of year. It was wonderful that you and your mother-in-law got to experience my province's fall foliage at its best, and I hope you get up my way again sometime. I appreciate all your kind words.
Spring is not the best time of year in Nova Scotia. I remember posting a photo taken last Easter Sunday of that dreadful snowstorm, while you and Ken were posting pictures of spring flowers at their most beautiful. It is all related to the water tempearture off our coast, which causes spring to be delayed, and late summer and fall to be longer, in my part of the world.
Of course, I am really looking forward to meeting you, Ken, Scott, Rick, and some of the other SF crowd when I get out your way in 1999.
Take care,
David
Beautiful pictures David! I've never been to Nova Scotia but these pictures remind me of central Ontario where my father grew up. We often visited Grandma Kennedy this time of year. I guess it's the feeling that winter (real winter) is lurking just around the corner and summer is reluctantly saying goodbye that the north country conveys so well.
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
Thank you for your kind words about my photos. I assume the fall is a bit later arriving in Connecticut than it is here in Nova Scotia, with a different variety of trees and a different mix of colours down your way. Hopefully, some time you will get a chance to get up my way to experience what my province has to offer.
Take care,
David
Great hair + a wonderful scenery David! Our autumn doesn't look nearly as nice as yours, heck this morning we had about -2 degrees C, (28.4 Fahrenheit) and it was really windy, but when the winter comes here it does look quite nice actually:)
Take care!
Hi Simon,
Thank you for your kind comments about my latest fall photos and about my hair. I guess your fall is somewhat more advanced in the part of the world where you live. We don't regularly experience sub freezing temperatures here in Nova Scotia until November, and that is only for brief intervals. Snow rarely arrives before mid November, and I can normally count on at least a few rounds of golf in November before I put the clubs away until spring.
Take care,
David
Wow some great Pictures DAD I love the countryside aint none where i live though :-(
Axel
Hi Axel,
It's great to hear from you again, and I hope things have been OK with you these days. Thank you for your kind words about my latest photos of the countryside in my fair province of Nova Scotia. I live in the city of Halifax, and these photos were taken about a 25 minute drive outside of town.
Take care,
David (Dad!)
