I know I really should now that I've gained quite a bit of length, but I have somewhat oily hair. While my roots get quite oily after awhile, my ends are kind of dry feeling. Even if I use a lot of conditioner on them, they still feel dry. I went without washing today, and my hair is so much more manageable than it normally is. The tips are also a lot more less dry feeling. However, my roots feel and look really oily right now. So my question is how can I cut back on washes without making my hair look greasy. And for my type of hair, how many washes do you recommend weekly?
Hey Brandon,
I used to have the same problem that you now have.
I have to wash my hair everyday because I live in south Louisiana and play alot of disc golf, therefore my hair can become quite funky.
When I wash my hair I only apply shampoo to the top portion of my scalp and I only use about the size of a large pea.
When I condition I apply it everywhere except where I shampooed.
Since My hair is naturally oily, my hair conditions itself on the top overnight.
Hope this helped.
Peace

Man, I wish I checked on here before I took a shower. My hair was feeling so nasty, that I just had to shower. I'll try the pea sized drop on the scalp and conditioner everywhere else next time I shower. So even to this day, you still wash your har everyday, huh? Yeah, I have gotten in the habit of applying the shampoo everywhere and massaging it in for a good 5 minutes. That might be my problem. So I'll just try to apply it on the top of my scalp. Thanks man. :)
Ya man, I do wash every day and I lightly massage the shampoo in for only a few seconds.
peace
Everyone is so different about what their hair requires that a solid rule simply can't be made-up. Go with what works best for you, and in your case something must definately be working fine or else your hair wouldn't be looking as splendid as it is. The comments below this I agree with also.
You "might" just want to apply a "Leave in hair conditioner" to the "ends only." In growing out really long hair requires many experiments along the way. Things change as it gets longer and can require a revamping of what had been done earlier.
Best of luck to you.
I wash my hair with conditioner. Yes, you read it right. The thing is, shampoos are by and large too harsh, and even the mild ones are too stripping so I wash mine with conditioner. Here's a link to a very good article regarding it on the LHC:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=68006
I find that it cleans my scalp very well, doesn't over-strip it and leaves some oil in the length stopping it being dry.
I started to do CO (conditioner only) washes and it works well.
To avoid dry ends, I would say:
a)Do not overwash your hair; overwashing alters the sebum equilibrium or how you call it, and maybe the scalp produces more sebum hust because you wash it out every day, and the ends become dry for lack of it. I wash my hair twice a week and it works, but it might not work for you, we're all defferent!
b)Try the CO wash following the post on the LHC.
c)Try washing the scalp only, and leave your hair damp, letting it dry naturally.
Hope this helps..
