when you told em you where growing your hair long?
Mom: shocked
Pop: happy.
and did they suport you?
and do they like your hair now?
Hehe...That's a bit interesting, seeing as their attitude about the whole situation has changed over the course of a year or so.
When I started:
Mom: Absolutely refused; didn't want long hair on her baby boy. Hah!
Dad: Didn't really care, but warned me that it might limit my job opportunities.
Now after 1+ years of growth:
Mom: Doesn't really care, though she wants me to go get a trim.
Dad: Doesn't care.
Well, no one in my family really care about wether i keep my hair short or long, it's not such a big deal really, and seeing as this is my second time growing it out they're quite used to seeing me with longer hair, my mother and 2 older sisters are quite supportive, but everyone and that including my brother and father prefer that i keep it tailed instead of loose when it's long because they think it suits me best and looks neatest.
We're quite open minded and i've never had any bigger problems with my family, as guess they just want me to be as happy as possible with my life:)
Actually, my mother suggested the idea! Imagine that!
Apperantly I look quite bad with short hair... very bad I'd say.
Well, I am growing my hair ever since! haha
Haven't tried being bald yet though, but that will wait until my military service (I'm living in Israel).
Mom: Hopefully you'll get tired of it...
Pop: Never really commented on the growing process, only that I needed to trim it from time to time...
Sister: What? NOOOOO!!
None of them did, but my mother convinced my father to accept my hair and my sister's hair...
My parents HATE my hair, as well as my sister's. My sister would never let me go short again, and she loves long hair =)
Interesting thread ^^
On the bright side, you have someone else in your family you can side with in the battle for long hair :P
My dad has had long hair off and on since ~1970, so he was cool about it. Ditto for my mum; her words were "it's his hair." The only person who really didn't like the idea (and told me) was my maternal grandmother, who still doesn't like the idea 3 1/2 years later [g].
That being said, I did not get any tips in how to grow hair from any of them, which is why I was still using a combination shampoo and conditioner until almost a year of growth.
As I said earlier, my grandmother still doesn't like it. I think my parents still don't care either way, but my mum is convinced that when I start the job search when I am graduated from university (which will be May 2008) I will cut my hair.

Both my parents were supportful. They both have long hair!
None was supportive to me having or growing my hair long but figured its my hair and I can have it how i was to have it and No they still say i need a Haircut but to bad its not happening

"If the length of your hair is the worst thing you're going to battle over, grow it as long as you want"
If my parents said that, I'd have to mess with their heads a little.
"Cool. Yeah, it'll help cover up my tats and piercings. I mean, thanks mom! Bye!"
Nothing really. They just don't seem to care.

Grandmother and mother: Shaking their heads and smiling. Another "crazy idea" from the youngster. :)
Dad: Didn´t care.
Brother: Cool!
Sister: Noo! You look so good with short hair!
First time in the late 1960s some opposition but University cured that.
By mid-1970s Father ambivalent bless him and Mother supportive. Second time in the 2000s no one to ob ject!
My mom is really into literature and fantasy novels/movies, so she thinks it's great.
My sisters told me it would never look right, but they are coming around now that it's getting longer.
My dad is the weirdest of all. He's what most people would call a hippie, and has fairly long hair, but he has discouraged me the whole time. Every time he sees me he tells me I need a haircut, or something like, "lookin' pretty girly there son." I think he may be jealous, or HE wants to be the longhair in the family.
Oh well, I don't live with them anymore, so I can do what I want.
I didn't tell them. In fact, the only reason I started growing my hair long was because my mum's friend, who used to do my hair on the cheap, and keep it nice (or so I thought...), fell ill with MS. I adamantly refused to go to a proper hairdresser/barber/salon, so I ended up having progressively longer hair, and it's now a shoulder-length mass of ringlets...
My dad is somewhat indifferent about it, but my mum thinks it looks really cute on me, and looks better than me with short hair. (I looked really stuck up my ass then! ^_^)
They didn't really support me as such, just told me, "You have two options: Have it cut off, or ignore them. And we're not paying to have your hair cut." every time I was upset that someone insulted me about my hair. Most of the people who insult me seem to think I have an afro, as opposed to long, draping curls. ¬_¬
My personal favourite insult is 'Would you like a wrench to undo your afro?!'. Stupid as hell, and if I hadn't seen the kid's mother in the area, he probably would have been left in a mess on the floor, as I was rather P'd off at the time by being made an ass out of on my way down the high-street.
I guess my parents/family like it, though my Grandpa seems desperate to attack my hair with some shears. Intolerant git.
