So... what do you get when you combine two college students, a free weekend, some spending money, and a couple passports? If you guessed a road trip to Canada, you are correct! My friend Lindsey was visiting me this weekend, and Indiana being the wonderland that it is, we decided to go north to Windsor, Ontario for some fun.
Now, after arriving at the customs checkpoint at 1:30am and finding a motel room, she and I decided to partake in the awesomeness that is the Casino Windsor until 5:00am. Then, following a few hours of sleep, we found ourselves down along the Windsor riverfront, directly across from downtown Detroit. So here we go!
Downtown Detroit behind me...
Definitely gaining some length...
A windswept ponytail (and what's with the Canadian corkscrew trees?!)...
An improvised half-tail, tied by Lindsey =)
A fountain (hmm... just like Europe ;)
A Canadian flag made out of plants...
And... OH! What is this?! A BRAID!!!
Thank you, Lindsey! You are a wonderful friend!
We had a ton(ne) of fun, though things were a little more expensive than we had planned. Just to show the volatility of exchange rates, when we crossed into Canada at 1:30am, the US dollar was at 96 cents Canadian. Twelve hours later, it had dropped to 93 cents Canadian. I have never seen that kind of drop in that short amount of time when traveling up there. Ah well...
ALSO! Click on my avatar and tell me what you think of my site design. Notice anything different? ;)
Thanks!

James,
Your hair grows fast! Your hair is going to look awesome when it gets longer. :-)
Mike
Thank you very much for the comments, Mike. I appreciate it. =)
-James
Holy smokes!!!!!
Your hair is looking great and (although it may not seem it to you) your hair grows at an above average rate.
peace
clayton
Haha, thanks, Clayton! I've noticed that it really takes off every now and then, especially in the past few weeks. Well, take care, and again, thank you. =)
-James
Hey James ...
Great update! It looks like you two had a great trip up north. Its nice to be able to grab a break from the studies when you can ... enjoy it!
Your hair is looking great ... It has really taken off with the growth and continues to look better with each of your updates.. Keep up the great work..
Well ... better run..
Take care James...
Tristan
Thank you, Tristan! We had a great time and will have to go up again sometime. Looking forward to your next update! See you around. =)

Awesome pics, James. Your length is allowing for so many looks. Man-Looks, one might say. I loved the shots of Windsor's Downtown park, right off of Ouelette and Riverside Drive with your opener shot finding Detroit's Renaissance Centre across the Detroit river. (I grew up in Windsor and so recognized it immediately.)
Sorry I'm not on so often these days. I am the type who has many interests and so focus on a few at a time.
Great progress and I am glad you have a friend and fun travelling partner (if not such a string currency compared to our Loony these days).
Cheers!
Shawn
Hey, Shawn! Thanks for the compliments. Yes, that's exactly where we were. Such a pretty town and we really had an excellent time. Hope you're doing well and looking forward to your next update. Take care and post when you can. =)
-James
Hey James
What a fantastic set of photos, and is your hair ever doing great! Glad you had the opportunity to take this trip and I LOVE your new site set-up! :-) B+W Photos can do so much unlike colour and seem to be an art form unto themselves. The one of you and Lindsey was so dark I couldn't make it out............so, here it is transformed into B+W.
My best to you James and thanks again for sharing with us the photos that you did. Take care-
Justin~
...
Oh thank you very much, Justin! I really like the way you edited that photo. It really came out well. And thank you for the comments about my site and other shots. Hope you're doing well! =)

Hi James,
I'm just stopping in for a quick check of the hyperboard this morning, just needed a chance to talk to some of my online friends, and I see this wonderful update from you.
First of all, I really wanted to thank you for taking the time to express your condolences to me in my time of greatest need in the thread that Just Carol started. I had NO idea that she was going to post this, and the outpouring of support from my fellow hyperboard members after the recent loss of my precious niece was far beyond my wildest dreams.
I am delighted you got to Windsor, Canada, and the big city of Detroit. I posted a few photos of Nova Scotia in the fall, with the colours taking hold, that thread is about halfway down the page, sorry you missed my post. Perhaps one day you will get to Nova Scotia, it is an exceptionally beautiful province with a special charm.
Of course, you always take the greatest photos, and your friend Lindsay has done an outstanding job as well. Your hair is looking superb, is growing by leaps and bounds, and my heartiest congratulations on your first braid! You will be at waist length in no time.
Take care,
David
Hi David. I really hope you're doing well, given the circumstances. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. No one deserves to go so early in life.
As for your photos, I apologize for not responding earlier. That is some spectacular scenery. I've never been to the Maritime provinces, but they're definitely on my list of places to visit. Your hair is really looking great too, and the length is certainly improving.
Well, take care and I wish you the best, David. If there's one thing we must learn, it's to not take life for granted and to live each day as if it were our last. =)
-James
Hello James !
I would like to have enough time and money to visit some famous places like you :)
"Bravo" for the braid !
Oh, and your photo make me remind that I want the same sunglasses...
Bye
Vivien
Thank you very much, Vivien! Really, we travel on the cheap. I always do, as it almost seems to be more fun that way. As for the braid, Lindsey is quite talented. I was really surprised how well she did this and in such short time.
I'm not sure where I got the sunglasses. I've had them for a long time, but I'm sure you can find them pretty much anywhere. Good luck! And again, Vivien, thank you!
-James
Great pictures, James, and I love the French braid. that exchange rate thing is wacky. I did hear that the Loony and the dollar are getting closer, so I guess someone's going to have to change all of those dual prices on books and greeting cards.
the hair is getting better and better. Keep it up!
Mouse
Thanks, Mouse! You know, I hadn't thought about that with the exchange rate, but everything's still more expensive up there (like 96 cents per litre for gas). Anyways, looking forward to your next update! Take care. =)
-James
Hi James looks like you had a great time up north in Canada. As usual your vacation pics are great and show what fabulous hair you have already accomplished to date. Its always nice to take a trip with a friend to experience new places.I assume this is your first time in that city. Now as for your hair pics I have to put my vote in for when your hair is loose.Ponytails and braids are great for conveinience but for some reason just having it flowing makes you look so much more relaxed and just enjoying yourself.I do admit that braid is rather cool on you.I didn't get the chance yet to check your site but certainly will when I get back later as I'm stepping out soon.So Take care my friend and keep up that longhaired faith:))Mark
Thanks a lot, Mark. It was our first time to Windsor (Lindsey's first time in Canada), and it was a wonderful trip. I really appreciate the remarks about the braid and styles. I like it down best, too. Well, take care and see you around the board. =)
-James
Hi James
Looks like you two had a nice time. Canada is a cool place to go hang out, I used to visit a friend there years ago I always had fun.
Your hair looks great and definitely gaining length.
Kevin
Thank you, Kevin. It is really a very nice country and I always enjoy my visits up there. The people are great. =)
-James
Hope you had an awesome time in Canada dude, and I must say your hair is looking great. You should visit Toronto sometime haha, keep it growing.
-animosity
Thanks, Animosity. You know, I definitely want to get to Toronto at some point. Seems like such a cool city. Maybe in the spring sometime. ;) Anyways, take care and keep your awesome hair growing too.
-James
This was a really great update James! Interesting locations and your hair is just taking off! I especially was impressed by that french braid photo. Soon you'll be able to use this style regularly should you choose to.
I like your site redesign as well. It's very easy to navigate.
Thanks, Jason! That braid really surprised me. I didn't know Lindsey had that kind of talent with hair. =D
Anyways, hope you're doing well. Take care and looking forward to seeing some more photos from you later on.
-James
Hi James!
great update, I really like your hairy color. Those are some great photo's. I'm glad you guys had a good time. Yeah, I know about the exchange rate changing quite a bit, at work here in California, we do a lot of business in canada, and we run the checks the exchange rate changes every month when we run them. oh well, at least you all had a nice breather ;)
Thank you very much, Danny! The exchange rate is crazy, but not everything can be perfect, I guess. Oh well, it was still fun. Take care, and nice set of photos you last posted. Sorry for not responding before, but your hair is quite unique and sooo thick! =)
-James
Great pics as always James! You're really starting to look like a true longhair now with all the different styles you can achieve.
And also that's a nice jacket you've got, definitely something i would wear as well as i dig leather jackets.
Take care!
Simon
Hey, thanks, Simon! I really like that jacket. My father bought it for me about a month ago and I must say it's the best one I've ever had. It'd really suit you, I think. Well, take care and looking forward to your next update. See you around... =)
-James
Wonderful set of photos, James! Your hair is looking great and long these days. That braid was simply awesome. Thanks for sharing these great photos of Canada and Detroit with us. I bet you had a great time! Oh, and congrats for surviving your stay at Detroit! You came back in one piece :-)
LOL Thanks, Chris! We spent really all of our time in Windsor, so we didn't have to face the perils of walking around Detroit (thankfully). Overall it was an awesome trip and I'm definitely gonna return at some point, though I'd also like to go further up the peninsula to Toronto, Ottawa, etc., if possible. Anyways, take care and hope you're staying well. =)
-James
There's that great smile of yours! :-)
Not just any ordinary 3-strand braid, but a full French braid going down the entire back of the head. I can do that to my own head, but it DOES take a lot of practice. Much easier when you have a set of helping hands to do it. I put two parts down the back of my head, and clip off the sides. When I start braiding, I unclip hair from the sides, take what I need, and clip the rest back. I rarely braid my hair like that, because it is difficult. But you should be able to do a simple 3-strand braid in no time.
Yes, it has a totally new layout. Looks good! Very professional.
Carol
Thank you very much, Carol, for those ever-so-kind words. I really appreciate it a lot. Take care and my best wishes to you. =)
-James
Hey James...great update! Seems you and I are about at the same point in our longhair journey. Very nice pics of your excursion and your hair is definitely looking fine. I have not ventured into the braid yet and my half-tail attempt was pretty lame...
Keep up the great work.
Max
Thanks, Max. Sooner or later you'll be able to pull off all kinds of different styles. Just be patient and it'll work for you. Best of luck to you with it. =)
-James
Excellent pictures of a great trip and fantastic hair, so glad you had ace time, your hair is looking very very good.
Cheers Dave
Why thank you, Dave! It was an excellent getaway. I'm looking forward to your next update. Take care! =)
-James
Hi
James
Your Friend Lindsey is Cute :-) I gather she was the one who put your hair in a Braid hmmmmmmmm Im unsure from the picture if it suits you like that looks great down & in the Ponytail probably might need to see some more pictures of your hair in a braid to give u an opinion if it siuts you or not But as usually a great set of picture James ..
Axel
Hey, thanks, Zig. She is nice, but she can be a pistol sometimes (did I just say that? ;). Anywho, thanks for the compliments. I have to variate my styles sometimes, just to keep myself always looking my best, I suppose. Hope you're doing well. =)
-James
Your hair is coming along nicely James! These are such fun pictures. You can really see the joy of adventure you two share in them. It's wonderful you have such a good friend.
Take care,
Bruce
(The new web design looks great, easy to navigate)
Thanks a lot, Bruce! I really appreciate the feedback, not only for the hair, but also the website. Hope you're doing well and post an update when you get a chance. =)
-James
I am glad that you had such a wonderful time James, Detroit looks pretty cool and I really like the way you came across (no pun intended) in this picture, it is my favorite of them:
A perfect longhair wind shot if ever there was one, and seems to capture the carefree spirit of the weekend! Looking forward t pictures from your next adventure :)
Take care
Thanks, Chris. Sometimes we all just need to escape and that's what this trip was. Hope you're staying well. =)
