Hoping there is someone who can advise me on what model of an all-in-one printer to purchase. I would like to get a model that doesn't drink ink, produces good documents and good copies of photos. I would like to have a flatbed scanner feature as well. I can't afford a high-end model with lots of bells and whistles...just something that will do an adequate job. Thanks, in advance.
I have a dell 924. it doesnt have a fax, but i've been very satisfied.
I think I have a Dell A920 or something like that without actually looking at it. It has the copy machine/scanner built in which is nice and has photo quality.
However, I would not personally recommend Dell if you are just buying a printer. Mine came packaged with my Dell computer 4 years ago. The problem regarding ink is that only Dell sells the cartidges, no refills at stores, and you have to call or internet order. And it seems like ink runs out and the color goes funny before the ink is "out".
I have a Hewlett Packard Photosmart C4240 that copies, scans, and prints. I found it on sale for around $90 USD, but it was originally $140. The ink cartridges in black are only $14. It will print color very well, even photos. Regular documents, typed in word, etc. look great. I go through a lot of ink because I print alot; I don't think that's the machine's fault. It's a good printer for what I paid for it. It does not fax, but then why would you want too when you can scan in a document and attach it to an e-mail?
If you can hold off till around Thanksgiving, Best Buy and others usually have a huge sale the day after on such things. You could probably get a really good printer for a good deal then.
The good thing about these is that when you buy a new cartridge, they include an envelope with postage paid to mail the old one back for recycling.
Thanks, Bragi for your recommendation. I have a COSTCO membership and noticed that this model (HP C4250) sells for $87.89 plus tax (every day price)...sounds like a good deal to me. However, I will wait until Thanksgiving, as you suggest, and see what happens.
Be careful of the cheaper ones. The cheaper ones will end up costing you more in ink. The volume of ink in the cartridges of the cheaper ones is very small. The more you pay, the larger the volume of ink in the cartridges.
You would make up the difference in price in a short period of time.
