Heres the deal. Everyday I have a perhaps questionable daily routine with my hair that I think is beginning to become unhealthy.
I get up with very frizzy & large hair (much to my displeasure) & head straight to the bathtub and soak my hair with cold water under the tap. There I would take some shampoo & rub it on my hands & then run my hands roughly through my hair, then do the same thing with conditioner & rinse my hair again. Then I dry my hair by shaking it & headbanging for a minute or two.
For a little while I like how my hair is; it is a bit curly & does not poof up. Problem is that after a while my hair poofs up traumatically & get full of very stubborn knots allover, especially in the back. All day I pick through it & soon it poofs up so much my head begins to resemble a mushroom.I notice all my hairs are far apart from each other & in all directions.
I need to know what would be a much healthier routine for me if I want my hair to be nice & "flat" like in the picture of myself all day.
First of all, Welcome....
Second of all..
You are in the "awkward stage". Your hair will do pretty much what it wants, when it wants. They only thing you can do is try to tame it a bit.
I would start off by not washing your hair in the morning. I was mine at night because about 2 hours after my shower, my hair is a mess. If I do this at night, it is a mess when I am sleeping. When I wake up it usually had some time to calm down. You should probably stop the headbaning to dry your hair. Just a quick, gentle pat with a soft towl is all that is required.
Hope this helps

Welcome Mikey, I think what you have in the picture looks great. To maintain that continuously you should make sure you're use a good quality shampoo and separate conditioner. Secondly you might try washing less often. Daily washing may tend to dry your hair too much, stripping your hair of the natural oils. Thirdly you can try a little leave-in conditioner.
Everyones hair is different and some can get away with less washing and some can't. Try different routines to see what may work. Good luck

i wash my hair about every 3 days and let some good natural run through my hair, its a known fact natural oil in your hair helps it grow faster believe it or not!
i typed too fast without looking haha
Hey Mikey,
Your hair is very similar to mine in texture and behavior. I have the same problems as you with my hair. Instead of washing with shampoo, I use conditioner only. Every once in a while (like once every 3 weeks) I'll use regular shampoo and then conditioner after that. You might even want to try not washing it at all for a day or two and let the oils penetrate your hair. When you do use shampoo you don't have to use a huge amount and, also, you shouldn't shampoo for over a minute. The other thing is to try to use a cooler water temperature when rinsing. Excess shampoo strips hair of it's natural oils...something that our type of hair needs desperately! With that in mind, try to stay away from hair products that contain alcohol...which dries it out even more!!!
As far as drying goes, there are 3 methods I go with. The one endorsed by many here is simply air drying...although I wrap my hair in a towel to help it dry faster. Other times I'll use a blow dryer and alternate between warm and cool settings...but mainly staying on the cool side of that. Lastly, and this one many will argue with, is to use a straightener. Some will tell you that it will damage your hair, but I disagree and haven't noticed any damage to mine. I get more damage by trying to work the tangles out with my fingers. When my hair is air dried, it still comes out poofy and it's really bad on particularly humid days. The straigthener gets rid of the curls, but it also gets rid of the snags. It's worth a try at least.
When you go to sleep at night, put your hair in a ponytail. You'll be surprised how much better your hair is when you wake up!
That's about all I can come up with.
Best of luck to you...take care and keep it growin'!
