I'm 19 and i've been growing my hair for about 1.5-2 years. It's getting pretty long, and i'm really happy with it. Except for one thing. My hair has been falling out since since 17, and it's been thinning slowly. And now it started falling out more than ever. The thinning area is starting to look bad also, before it was just like that of some girls with thin hair, but now it's like...wait, is he going bald? I'm on propecia, but my father, uncle, and grandfathers were all bald by the early 20's, so i have really bad genes and the medicine is not working that well.
I would just start shaving my head but i hate the shape of my head, i could never pull that off well. I plan to get transplant surgery in a couple months. Would cutting the hair to medium length help the look and rate at which it falls out? Would shaving and starting over help?
Also, does anyone know if the hair has to be cut short for the surgery?
I am in the same ship as you when it come to when it comes to hair. But I when out of my way and fixed it

Eat less meat and more veggies and fruits

I am almost at my 2 yr mark and had 1 hair cut to take the some of the fulf out of it ...
But the way my dad went bald in his early twentys as well ..
It can be done you just may have to work a little harder at it .......
Actually i'm really into bodybuilding so i already eat flax seeds, eat very little sugar(except from fruit/veggies), and take vitamins(but i try to not overdose on vitamin A). I don't usually eat red meat(it's usually high in saturated fats) but i do eat alot of chicken, fish, and whey protein. I haven't tried the shampoo but i've been on propecia for 2 years already. I'll give the shampoo a shot as well, but i've done everything else already and it's not fixing the situation. My genes are REALLY bad, even my mom has thin hair.
Mate you aint gonna go bald all over, you can still have long hair on the sides(skullet) like devin townsend, then again if you care what other people think that might not be a good idea and if you don't like the idea of a skullet, the best option may to shave it off so people just get used to your new look.
My attitude towards balding is, if its gonna happen, so be it, if it was me i woudlnt want to upset myself going through information on balding and all these money grabbing companys who say they can stop balding., i would just let it happen, because in my opinion there is no way to stop it, slow it maybe but not stop it.
Friend,
No hair does not have to be cut short for transplant surgery. In fact some hair to comb over helps hide the temporary scabs which will form. But if you have addition to your front hairline, you are surely going to see some red spots for a week or so. Try timing this when you do not have to make public appearances, like the first day of a vacation, or be prepared to wear a bandana.
The people you are working with will advise you. Do not expect miracles.
Many guys who are thin on top like a very long tail, which can be braided.
I think If I were totally bald on top, I'd look for some fun wigs: perhaps a short afro, and a long Cavelier.
We are not all alike, so do not compare your worth with other people. If wishes were possible, I'd like hair like Jason's, but since that is not possible I celebrate what I have. I hope you can too.
Cal
My hair is becoming thinner as well, but I'm not bothered by it.
I will be recruited to military in about two years, and will have to shave my head anyway. I will try growing it back after the service, but if that won't work out (because of me being bald), so be it.
Nobody wants to get old, but it happens naturally, you know.
Glad you are considering and can afford transplanting. I had good luck with this approach. You do not need to shave it for the procedure. Medical Hair Restoration (MHR) and Bosley are the only trusted names I know of.
.I plan to get transplant surgery in a couple months.
No, No, No,No
your to young for transplants, you have to make sure your pattern will support transplants,BE VERY CAREFUL, YOU MAY REGRET DOING THIS
