Hi all,
First let me say, you all are great folks, I'm glad to be part of this caring, supportive and hairy group.
Well, today was a bit of a milestone. We are having a sunny & windy Fall day in San Jose. In the parking lot at Target I felt the wind blowing through my hair. The cool breeze was actually MOVING my hair. For a guy used to feeling the cool breeze on bare skin or an immovable crewcut this was just amazing. I closed my eyes and tried to imagine what free flowing shoulder length hair would feel like in a year or so.
While in Target I bought Infusium23 shampoo, conditioner and leave in treatment. Though I don't plan to use the shampoo too often. In an earlier, archived post, one of the guys here recommend Infusiun23 for curly hair. I though I'd give it a try. I used some of the leave in treatment when I got home and got an immediate decrease in frizz volume.
Guys it ain't my first little tail but I'm pretty stoked! Watch for my Halloween, 5 month update. It will be fun to see the erratic curls poke out under my Robin Hood hat! LOL
Thanks for listening,
Don
I had a similar experience this week. I learned the true meaning of The Awkward Phase:
awkward phase + windy day = crazy afro ken
It is warm, but it'll be nicer next year when I can tie it back so it's both warm *and* not attacking my eyeballs.
Hi Don,
What a wonderful milestone to be celebrating with us on the hyperboard! The fact that you are experiencing these joys for the first time makes them extra special, and all the more reason to cherish these moments. I can tell that you are a longhair at heart, and before you know it, you will be celebrating your first tail. Happy growing!
Take care,
David
Hi David,
'A longhair at heart'. I like that a lot. Thanks for your message. It made me smile. This is a transformational journey for me. I'm grateful for the traveling companions here. Besides it's gonna be a heck of a lot of fun.
Cheers,
Don
It is a great experience for you I am sure. It is hard for me to relate because I have always had average length hair. I am trying to imagine what immovable hair would be like. A crewcut..shudder lol, no not for me ever. LOL
Looking forward to your Halloween update, those are always fun around here as we have such a creative crew here :)
Take care Don
Thanks Chris,
I'm trying to forget those crew cut days. I'm looking forward to Halloween.
Don
RickG and I were up at Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton day before yesterday. You think you get wind action at Target, you should try up there!
Congratulations on your milestone!
Bill
Thanks Bill. I've only been up to Mt. Hamilton Observatory once. It was just after last year's snow so it was cold and windy. Another trip took us over the summit down the east side of the mountain to the Livermore Valley. A truly beautiful ride. It was just after last year's snow so it was cold and windy.
Don
Hi Don...
I just read your message. You're in San Jose? Cool... me, too! I'll send you an email...

Rick,
I'd love to hear from another SJC guy. We've been here about 3 years, transplants from SF.
Don
-Congrats dude!
-Josh
Thanks Josh
Congrats. Its wonderful to make progress.
I was about where you were less than two years ago. Hair up over the ears, maybe an inch or so on top, etc.
The great thing about the first few months are that change is really noticeable, and small goals as you so describe are easily obtainable. You will notice a change in how you look, and soon others will begin to notice more and more.
It's a great journey. I don't know why I waited 30 years to make it again.
Keep it growing!
Big George
Hi,
I'm ready for the journey. I'll keep everyone updated.
Thanks
Don
Hi Don, that was a great milestone for me too, I had also sported a shaven head for many years and the feeling of the wind in ones hair is wonderful.
Keep the faith! Cheers Dave
Dave, It's good to hear that you understand why this was a milestone of sorts for me.
I'm a little surprised to find guys on this board who, like me, had shaved heads for significant periods of time. At first thought it seems incongruous. I think in some ways the motivation to be bald by choice or a long haired guy may not be that different. Something to think about.
Cheers,
Don
I agree and very relevant to ChrisG's post below.
Cheers Dave
