Some of the elven scenes from Lord of the Rings come to mind, especially of the elves, male and female both with thick long hair. Do you ever think of a society like that in which MPB has very minimal effect on the men? I often wonder how men would be in such a society. I confess to often thinking about life in such an ethereal elven world like we see portrayed in Tolkien's vision. I do think I'd make for a happy longhaired male elf!
Fantastic pictures Jason, that is my favorite way to keep my hair lately, loose. You have the look down pat so if Mr. Jackson ever manages to film The Hobbit you need to get down to New Zealand pronto!
I really do like these pictures Jason, the color of your hair and the peaceful expression and contentment you show is priceless.
The very last trigger that got me to act in growing out my hair was the Elves in the Return of the Kind. Particularly this dude in Arwen's train. I really just loved the whole look. I don't suppose I am so far from that myself after all. Well maybe if I lost the facial hair lol
LOL, thanks for the vote of confidence! I so happy Jackson directs it. It just wouldn't be the same if he didn't.
It just felt great to be out in the sun that day. I did feel at peace.
I loved that scene very much and I also noticed the elf that you pictured. I think you could easily portray an elf. You have the thin lithe body that they're known for. I, on the other hand, have pounds to lose!
Thanks for your comments.
Jason, Please, stop pretending. Your are one one of tne long haired elvises.
Caledonian
LOL! Do you mean elves or elvises?
Just..... MAGNIFICENT! ..... my Lord :-)
SamsoKera
Thanks very much!
Jason,
Your hair is magnificent...just wanted to say that!
Take care and keep it growin'!
Brett
Thanks Brett....that really means a lot.
Hi Jason,
As always, outstanding photos, displayed in the great outdoors, which brings out the colours in your awesome hair to perfection. I can only imagine how it will look when you reach classic length.
That would be a wonderful thought, to live in a land where MPB never rears its ugly head. Perhaps, one day, they will find a cure to eliminate MPB entirely, I understand research is being carried out at this time.
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks David. I truly hope my terminal length will allow me to grow my hair to classic.
I do hope that one day this plague will be lifted from the human race. Even though I'm not really affected by it, it's always been a worry for me and I know it's possible it could start afflicting me at any time. I don't ever take my hair for granted!
Did you put any red coloring in your hair at some point? or is that the natural color?
I used a temporary 28 wash back in June. It was a plum color that has left the reddish highlights I was hoping for.
I'm with you on the whole elven thing. I wish I was a wood or high elf. Hell, that's probably why I'm trying to get a longbow!
Who knows, maybe someday genetic engeneering will reach a level where we will be able to change humans to elves. Breed dragons and other fantasy creatures, etc.
In fact, that's in part what happens in Mothership, a very good book I read in one day.
What a cool thought to contemplate! Imagine a world where men and women never lose their hair and there are real fantasy creatures!
Hey Jason ...
It would be very cool to see all the males and females running around here with long locks.. A time like no other I suppose.. I loved the elves in LOTR. But I think Eragorn, (not sure if its spelled right) is my favorite.. Although his hair could've been just a bit longer ....
Your hair looks great as usual! Its really going to look amazing as it starts to reach your belt. How long do you estimate it taking?
Take care ..
Tristan
btw ... Some of the ski resorts opened this week; and we're expecting more than a foot of fresh powder today.. Might be time to tune up the board my friend..
Peace..
Hey Tristan,
I think you're referring to Aragorn - the human ranger and Isildur's heir to the throne of Gondor. He did have nice hair but I agree with you it could have been longer and I didn't care for his bangs.
I think most of the elves, male and female, had hair much longer.
I expect, assuming I don't hit terminal, that my hair will reach my belt somewhere in 2010. I so hope it keeps growing!
Love fresh powder! Lucky you out West!
Thanks for your comment.
Hi Jason,
Amazing pictures as always my friend and the natural colour of the daylight is wonderful.
I think the idea of an elvan world would be great and no MPB and certainly would be different to the so called "rat race" world we have to endure today.
Cheers,
John.B
Thanks John.
I agree. I think it MPB was eliminated it would go a long way towards helping men deal with the rat race.
Here's a recent article about research into aging. The researchers were able to double the lifespan of worms (no mention about slowing down MPB yet!)
It is conceivable that genetic problems like MPB will be understood a hundred years from now. Of course, trying to cure them will be scary - we might find ourselves saying "well, we've got great hair but 12 toes..."
Ed
Thanks for sharing that info. The scary thing is that I would take 12 toes to be guaranteed thick hair for life!
I say, the more the better!
We could learn a lot from our tentacular friends down by the local aquarium.
On a more serious note, we need to understand the fact that almost all the news related to scientific discoveries that we get from Reuters, or any other news agency, are usually sensationalist bul*****.
If you want real science, get a hold of a Scientific American, or an equivalent. If you're really interested, go and directly read the papers published by these scientists. The ones on genetic research being to me the most interesting.
Hey Jason
I think you would be happy indeed if such were the case. ANYONE who had long hair as great as is yours would be happy and cherish it. Wonderful photos as always.
All the best-
Justin~
Thanks so much Justin. I do appreciate that so far MPB has not hit me too much. Hopefully it will stay that way.
I the love the mood of this photo. They appear so serene and their hair looks fabulous.
ELVES, ELVES, ELVES!!! Why does everyone prefer the elves in LOTR? I want to be a Rider of Rohan, one of the Mark, the Riddermark, a Rohirrim with all that blond hair living in a Viking style hall like hapless, high Heorot from Beowulf!!!
Certainly all of us with facial hair I suppose should prefer the Men of Middle Earth. I thought the wildness of the Men was very cool too, the manes and facial hair quite formidable.
If I remember correctly all the Elves were beardless save for Cirdan the Shipwright, the Master of the Grey Havens.
Cirdan from the Lord of the Rings
I agree, the men of Middle Earth are awesome too, and I like facial hair as much as the lack of it. I alternate between styles.
The difference however, is that Elves are immortal unless killed. That's a pretty big advantage lol.
Elves and men can have their trees and their field. Give me a deep, dark mine!

Hi Jason, your hair looks absoulutely fantastic. You have among the best manes of anyone here. Your hair is thick at the crown, so you probably don't have to worry about hair loss.
Living in a utopian elven society is something that has crossed my mind. Imagine living in a pristine world without war or stress or crime. Imagine living to be 700 years of age in perfect health and yet never getting old. Imagine having lovely long hair for your entire life that never thins. That surely appeals to me as well.
I have entertained the thought that perhaps an ancient elven society did exist prior to the creation of Adam and Eve. A Christian friend of mine mentioned the existence of pre-adamic humanoid races on Earth. (These races existed more than 5768 years ago, prior to the inception of the Hebrew lunar calendar.)
I would be interested in further discussing this off board by e-mail to avoid stirring up a lot of weird posts here.
Scott
In the world of which we all dream, MPB would not be a problem, posibly an advantage. Those of us who lost hair early in life would be honored to wear beautiful wigs, which we could put on immediately after a shower, when we had been working and sweating in our gardens, and have publically presentable hair faster than those of us who need to go through a drying and styling process.
Adam & Eve are mythical figures, representing the origin of humanity from the Hebraic tradition, but the real origin of humanity occurred many 1000s of years earlier, in central equatorial africa, and being moved north as the cycles of warming and cooling occurred like a pump, moving proto-humanity toward the Mediterranian, and toward the middle east, so called fertile crecent from Egypt to Iraq, including Palestine.
No question about it, those proto-Jews, the ancient Hebrews or Israelites, invinted moral catholicism, [perhaps others did but we got it from them] about 600 BCE. Check the books of ASmos, Hosea, Nicah. The cup that you use to measure your grain must be the same cup used to measure your neighbors grain. Treat the stranger in your gate as your own, etc. etc. etc. Do unto others...
Even though I believe that the Jews of Jesus's time were strongly influenced by Hellenistic (Greek) culture, remember Alexander the Gross, was 300 years earlier, they had no lived experience of Greek, Athenian "democracy." Therefore Jesus only had patriarchial language available to him and longed for the "Kingdom of God." To bad he did not use the term "Democracy of God," of "Republic of God," which would have helped us deal with the issues of modern social organization, and helped us move beyond the archaic governmental institutions in which inherited rule is the norm.
For a Democracy of God would have called for honesty, faireness, justice, mercy, individual expression, non conformity, individualism, limited only by the non threatening self expression of others.
My long hair, and my bi-lateral earrings, are in some sense a religious affirmation. I am not bound by gender conformity, and I assert the equality of men and women. It is also for me a peace affirmation, for I invite discussion and negotiation rather than the fantasy that I can ever force others to do anything aginst their will.
I do not believe that Jesus was a unique, original moral teacher, but he was a formidable challenge. It is too bad that those who think he is "the greatest philosopher," do not grasp that he was not a philosopher at all but a moral, well grounded psychological pragmatist, and that those who do violence in his name, i.e. invade Iraq, deceive the American Public, engender fear, torture the supposed enemy, are in violation of the most basic teachings of our central moral tradition.
Of course there was a humanity prior to the mythological Adam and Eve. The Hebraic tradition is one cultural tradition attempting to grasp the moral complexities of the human situation. But we will never get the point as long as we think of Adam and Eve as the first humans, and certainly imagining a mythological past is of no help when there is a good bit of solid anthropological science telling us what went before.
More could be said.

A very thought-provoking post, sir. I guess I'd like to comment on what you said about the 'Democracy of God' as opposed to His Kingdom. Obviously here the material world a democracy is the ideal; everyone is free and everyone has as much a say as they choose to take in the goings-on of their corner of the world. But when I imagine the Kingdom of God I imagine a perfect, good King who does his job so well that one is free from even the democratic responsibility.
I often think of the Fourth Age of the Sun when Aragorn unites the upper and lower Kingdoms. As Gandalf describes it to Butterbur, it will be a wonderful place where there is little need and much peace.
So the Kingdom of God, at least in my imagination, is a little more appealing than a Democracy. Long hair included.
