The point of braids and buns is to keep hair neat, which is valued in the working world. People with patience and genius can braid their own hair, but anyone can make a bun.
I bought a pair of fancy hairsticks, entirely overpriced, and too heavy, but then I made a remarkable discovery. I re-used some thin skewers, and I dyed them with some temporary blue hair color which I use sparingly to tone down the red in my hair. Amazingly, they came out green.
Yesterday, I bought a package of "Chef Harvey's bamboo Skewers," 6" inch, 100 for about $3.00., at a speciality grocery store, or clocal "Earth Fair," but I am sure you can find them at "Whole Foods," my favourite chain, or other similar stores. I am going to dye some of them brown or black with shoe polish, then wash them, so they blend in with my auburn becoming gray hair.
They are light in weight, already the right color for blonds, and they work. I have also found conctail toothpicks to work as well, and they are almost invisible. as ways to anchor buns.
We men tend to be inhibited in using any hair style which has historically been associated with women over the last X number of years, but let's get over it. I do not wish to achieve a feminine style, but for those who do I say go for it. But my short beard and moustache prevents any way I wear my hair from being feminine.
As a good friend said, no matter how much attention you pay to your hair, the public will care less. Buns is fun, and practical as well.
