Well its been 5 months now since my last haircut and its feeling great its about 2 inches below my ears and the back is almost to my shoulders Im lovin my new look . The question is I still have eye length bangs and am considering keeping them that length but having everything else grow, grow, grow,. The reason is, is that with them shorter I can comb my bangs to the side and have a little style, Im not saying the middle part isnt cool Im just so used to having bangs its like "my look" are there any other long hairs out there that have opted to keep bangs a little shorter in order to have a little bit of a different style?, not a mullet but long hair with eye or eybrow length bangs, or is it a bad idea?
I haven't seen any long haired male since I've been alive these last 18 years with bangs. That was a little too reminiscent of the vogue/edgy long-haired female cut.
Also, growing out your bangs lets your eventually pull them back behind the ear and then reach far back enough for a possible pony tail. A pony tail with bangs look might be awful hard to pull off.
Just my opinion of course since I don't know what you look like.
How can you guys say you've never seen a long-haired guy with eyebrow length bangs? All the little kids these days sport that look, and it is awful.
I think you're talking about a bowl cut, or something similar. My nephew has one, and I can't convince him otherwise (he's only 7 though).
In terms of actual long hair (shoulder-length or longer) I haven't seen any men have short bangs.
No. I used to have bowlcuts when I was younger, but these days kids have shoulder length hair at the back and sides but short bangs. Not exactly a Mullet but not too good looking either, IMO

Ah well there you go then, I can use this as an example. I think it looks just as bad as on women, IMO.
Well IMO I've seen quite a few and one good example used to be Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden!
But hey it's a free world and everyone one is entitled to an opinion on a subject!
Cheers,

Did all the guys really say this? And as far as "awful," apparently the kids don't think so and not all the little kids today sport that look. And what of the bowl cut? It has been around since at least the great depression. Something that "awful" would just never have lasted this long.
I can give you examples of (non-hair related) awful things that have lasted thousands of years :P
And so can I as well. But thank goodness this board is all about hair and not an unhappy place to visit. :-)
That's why i'm here :)
Without a picture it is difficult to comment BUT if you do not let your bangs grow out it will be nigh impossible to have a safe pony tail or put your hair behind your ears. The ability to put you hair back or in a tail is extremely useful for many reasons.
well if you keep bangs like that alot of people will probably persume you are a glam rock fan xP
Other people have already mentioned that you will limit yourself to no tails/buns etc, which trust me can be very useful.
But really for me from an aesthetic point of view, I HATE short bangs. The only gender I see wearing them is women, and I honestly hate that look. Imo long hair that's more or less the same length throughout looks much better. Same view on males wih bangs, though I have yet to see one.
Of course it's fine to have longish bangs. Those here who think that "bangs are only for women" are just like people who say "long hair is only for women". And yes, you can still pull your hair back with bangs.
I agree with you that long bangs will allow for a little "style" compared to the ubiquitous all-one-length look. Work with a trusted stylist and you'll end up with a great look.
Hi there,
Well it's your hair and it's up to you what you should do with it and if you want bangs go for it. Of course we do have the "bangs are only for women" or "have to keep it all the same length" gang and they know how they are...lol! After all it's not the ladies that have bands and some people please spare the "glam rock" look lol.
Please post a picture of how you are at the moment and we can comment more if you like.
Cheers,
John.B
I sport that look. I love the skater look with bangs in my eyes, of course not everyone will like it. Most girls like my hair this way, but there's the few that tell me I should buzz it - no way! If you like the look, go for it bro.
It is always a bad idea to not be yourself. If you desire a certain look unique all unto yourself then go with what makes you feel best inside. Bangs being considered only for women is nonsense. Just look at some of the great Rock Stars. They certainly had a great following. Just look-up Punky Meadows as an example of just one.
Bruce Dickinson, best singer and best band with Iron Maiden (of all time obviously :)
'Hideous' must be in the 'eye of the beholder' hehe.
i.e. IMO, I think not!
Bruce Dickinson is one of the best metal singers of all time, without Iron Maiden there would be so many band's that don't exist today.
Hi Dean,
As I said a great example and one the best bands around and still going and there were great on stage in London last year.
Cheers,
John.B
oh god his haircut is hideous, don't cut the bangs dude.
That my be the case with some people but he can belt out a good metal song!
Cheers,
John.B
So popular were they that concerts were sold-out to the masses for years who were thrilled to hear them live. And they made millions! (Sure bet that wasn't too hideous to put in a bank account.) And look at some of those bangs above. Hideous? On the far left is Punky Meadows, most noted of all in the band "Angel" that lasted for years.
And did my generation ever think they were neat!
I never said anything about their musical talent,(I've never even heard of them) just their hair, in my OPINION its hideous don't get so touchy people.
I have to agree. I have yet to see a single case of either a female or male with short bangs that would be better than if they had grown them out.
With every picture you post Justin, my opinion is reinforced.
I can post pictures of Eminem, and say how he had huge commercial success, but that doesn't mean I like how he dressed. In fact I don't like him at all, but it was a good example.
That's like saying that the third Matrix sequel was a good movie because it did well in the box office.
Don't forget we're talking about hair here, not commercial success. If we live in a community whose opinion on fashion changes radically every decade, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason why people liked bangs during the time of these singers, was the same reason why long hair on men is looked down upon now in general.
I'm not crazy about any of these pics either cause the bangs are way too short plus I don't think they look right on older people(no offense). My length isn't that long yet, but I plan to keep the fringe.
Those look fine tbh.
When I said that from my point of view I didn't like bangs, I meant those that extend to the eyebrows, or even higher. To re-iterate, this isn't me saying that bangs look well on women but bad on men. No. What i'm saying is that I don't like the way bangs look on ANYONE. In some cases they may look ok, but from my experience, imagining those bangs longer always yields a better result.
Oh and btw, my bangs no extend to three inches below my chin (I have an elongated face type too, so that adds to the length). Yey.
Well that's a matter of ones opinion isn't it?
I don't find it hideous but that's my opinion.
As well Justin makes a point and I plan to see them next year in Germany.
Kevin
A little reason here.
First, all generalities are false (including the one I just made). When you have people saying "they look hideous", they are either expressing their own bias, or you have a generality which is immediately suspect.
The people saying "they look hideous" (or its equivalent are leaving out the *VERY* important phrase: "in my opinion". That's all it is - one person's opinion. It means no more than that. We now know that those specific people don't like it. As you can see from other posts, some people do like it.
Then there are those who say "you can't pull it into a pony tail". Well, actually, you can - if you *WANT* to. The point these people are missing is that you've given no indication that you do want to. The fact that they like a pony tail doesn't mean that anyone else does. Personally, I'm not that sure why someone with good hair wants set it where they can't show it ... but I'm just one person.
Now, for the important part: obviously you *DO* like it. You said that you're thinking of it as your look. That says it all. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that look. BE YOURSELF! Obviously you like it, so go for it!
