First of all thanks to all those who posted in my thread from a couple of days ago (still on the board "I'm a bit sad").
Your responses really helped me.
Now for my decision...
I'm going to keep trying to grow my hair out for another 7 months at least and up to 16 months maximum (i.e my 5 year 'anniversary') .
IF my hair has not got to the length that I initially desired (roughly between 'elbow length' and 'waist length') by that time, then I will accept that I have reached terminal length and will then cut and maintain my hair about 2-4 inches shorter than it is in the above photos/then it is now.
Addititonally I *may* also experiment by getting a fringe. I have a long face shape so this could look good on me.
As for the above photos, 2 considerations:
1. The weather made my end particulalry frizzy that day, but you get the idea generally I hope.
2. I put my hair into a ponytail *immediately after* taking the hair out shot.
Thanks everybody.
Now I must sail on again for a while, I am currently in what will hopefully (!) be my last week with undergraduate classes, and I finish overall in less than a month!
Ciao 4 now :-)
Bongiorno Deano!
I didn't respond the other day because I couldn't see how you had much of reason to be sad with such cool hair as your own. Why extreme length isn't everything. I think your hair will get longer, but then again, if it doesn't, you've got such nice hair anyhow that really anything more would just be gilding the lily.
Congrats on finishing your studies! I'm sure you'll finish out well by December.
Glad to see you posting! Don't be such a stranger. MB
Thanks Sir, you always know the right things to say.
Also 'a big up' (as the kids say these days? lol) to you for your positive comments.
I appreciate it mate and I'll try to be less of s atnger in the future.
Arrivederci (for now!)
Hey Dean-
I just don't know how you do all that you do. No question in my mind that you are going to really make something out of your life big time. And as a person, there could be none finer. You are such an asset to the Human Race. And of your long hair, despite it appearing to have reached its max, it is down-right killer great long hair. Absolutely Magnificent!
If you have ever noticed, most are very concious of their hair and are always trying to "get it just right." But who is to say what is right? Examples: my hair has a wave in it, I wish it didn't. My hair is just so straight, I wish I had wavy or curly hair instead. My hair is curly, I wish it was straight. If it is straight, I wish it was of another colour. The list is endless and I am just sticking to hair. But when realizing that some things are out of ones control because of genetics, best is to be happy with what one has and be grateful. And with your type of intelligence, though of some disapointment for yourself, you have emerged with a mane so unique unto yourself the likes of a word has not as yet been invented to describe. It looks simply fabulous! And there is much to be said about the length you have been able to aquire. Many would give their eye-teeth to have such.........and for good reason too. Also at the length you are at now, the natural V shape can be seen at its very best. Waist length isn't everything because that artistic shape becomes lost. My own terminal is a few inches past waist. But you know what? It was a pain to battle those thinned strands at the ends that set up tangles and knots so bad you wouldn't believe. Also to manage, a nightmare. So, I took the Bull by the horns and got my first massive trim to a few inches above waist. Wow.........what a difference and it looked so much better! The ends now once again nice and full instead of looking like cobwebs. The V shape was back and the tangles and knots no longer the problem of which I was tormented by for so many months. And now I know exactly where I stand and what genetics will allow, and I will get a trim probably every 4 months from now on to not let it go below waist level. I was indeed disapointed myself at 1st as I was in hopes of butt length at least. But you know what? I am elated at what I have! And most likely this will be your case as well if not quite at the moment before long for yourself. The "look" fits you fantastically!
Good idea as you will never know until you try and experiment to see what happens. Life can be full of surprises. Thomas Edison never gave up until he met with success. Can you imagine spending 10 years of your life trying to invent an electric light bulb? He just would not give up and in the end he won!
Bravo! The most healthy way to look at it. :-)
Well known by now are the "anti fringe" sentiments among some longhairs...........but then again what's new, somebody is always anti something it seems these days anyway. No big deal. My opinion only: the fringe would look outstanding on a face shape such as you have and would actually make the rest of your hair appear to be longer. It certainly is a style well liked by so many and for very good reason. It is like none other! Even those who "say" they don't like long hair, just get them to a band concert and it suddenly floors them! And here I speak of both performer and music as well. Not "just" the music. Without that look, it just wouldn't seem right. A balance has been reached, and this balance has triumphed. All is in the best harmony.
If you ever desire a fringe yourself and want some advice, you might consider emailing Bruce Gallager, (a member here for many years) who is a pro of all pros in what harmonizes best and get his opinion. Bruce has been so helpful in the past for all of us on this board and always has the best advice possible. He has attended to both Jasons and Ardroths hair as they live much nearer him than do you or I. With Bruce as a guide,I dare say one could never go wrong. His talents are almost legend, and as a professional there are few that could equal his expertise.
My best to you as always Dean and great luck to you not only in your present studies, but when at long last reaching Calgery Canada.
Justin~
