Hey Guys!
I'm heading to Oregon on Thursday morning to see friends that I haven't seen in a year, and I'm terribly excited to see what their reation will be to my longer hair. I told them I was growing it out last year, but I'm sure they'll be surprised even if they haven't forgotten that fact (I haven't brought it up since then anyway).
I like surprising friends with my longer hair. A couple of them have just said, "Your hair!" and ruffled it up. Some people haven't even recognized me at first. I remember waving at a man I hadn't seen in over a year last May, and he waved back...then did a double take! Another woman knew that she knew me, but couldn't really recognise me until I reintroduced myself. All have reacted positively to the longer hair. :-)
So what are some of the best experiences surprising people that you guys have had?

Driving to class one day with my car window open, I was about halfway there when I hear this yelling, and then I realized some dude was yelling at me! "DUDE, YOU LOOK LIKE JESUS!!" Well, there ya have it :^)

Heeeeey Mouse, had a feelin' ya'd be travellin' soon! Ooooooooo!
Yeah, as opposed to when I HAD had a completely shaven pate in
the corporate world, twenty years ago, and would get comments
on the streets of midtown Manhattan such as, "My planet to your planet!" (as tho' ALL off-worlders are bald!), now with LONG hair again, I'm fodder for comments from former business world colleagues such as, "My G-d! What happen'd to your hair!", to which I usually retort the universally applicable, "Why, it grew. That's sump'n that usually happens when ya stop cuttin' it, ya know."
It's creepy now how shaven heads and/or every-two-weeks coiffures are the prevalent order of the day ( *shivers* ) . . . I almost feel responsible for getting the ball rolling. Perhaps the tide will turn in the opposite direction (I hope).
Anywho, Mouse, it's great how you yourself have made such a complete changeoever to growing yours into a beautiful longer length from an earlier life of short coiffures. Gorgeous achievement, BTW. Truly lovely. Your colour itself deserves to be
seen long, it's that unique.
So have a great visit with your friends, Mouse, and let us know what they all think (take lotsa pics!), oh, oh, and find that barrettes and hair sticks link attached again that I had given Dean the other day and meant for you t' see, also.
Bon voyage,
Quenyan
Hey Mouse:
Wow, Oregon...being from the NorthWest (now on the East Coast) I'm totally jealous. In fact just this morning I was thinking about taking a trip to Alaska one of these days. As far as surprises goes...here's mine. Last week I had a minor procedure at the hospital. I was in pre-opt and one of the nurses teased me about putting on the "hair-net." Another one said, "he just doesn't want to mess up his hair. His hair is nicer than ours." I wouldn't go as far as to say that but it was longer than all but 1 (I was counting.) Goes to show you never know what people are thinking. Have a great trip and hope you and your hair are well received. Bruce'ster
Congrats on all the positive feedback Mouse. Men and even women seldom get any support for growing long hair... "it's not stylish enough" or "long hair is for kids".
As for best surprise was last year when my mother came up for a visit. The smiled and said "he always did like long hair". That made me feel good!
Keep on growin'

Hellol Mouse (et al.),
I get similar, " your hair!", responces...never sure if they like it or not, just an acknowledgment that they notice it is different. I am going to a music educator's conference next weekend, though, and I am looking forward to the reaction from some former professors and teaching colleagues from different boards. Many of whom have no idea I've been growing my hair since before the last time I saw them.
I'll let you know.
Shawn
PS. And Mouse, by the way your hair is coming in so nicely, it is no surprise that you are getting double takes - and probably not just because of the surprise of seeing you with long hair.
