Halloween 2007. A Shrek-obsessed 2-1/2 year old daughter, and me without a whole lotta progress yet in growing my hair out (it was only about 2-1/2 inches long). Sounds like a real "Aww, what the hell?" moment me.
So I shaved my head. I'm gonna paint myself green. The true kicker, though, is that we actually acquired a real, live donkey this summer, which will be happily muching apples in our front yard, come All Hallow's Eve, to the delight of all the little trick-or-treaters. Yeah, I'll be posting some rather unique pics.
Anyway, before getting lambasted with negative replies, I'd like to make it clear that I still intend on growing my hair out. My official starting date, from a shaved scalp, is November 1st, 2007.
Planned for next Halloween: The Crow.
Happy holidays!
Yeah, Nic, an over-the-head bald cap probably wouldn't've
work'd well w/ theatrical avocado-colour'd grease paint.
Anywho, Validus is underscoring this for his daughter as
one o/t most memorable Halloweens so far. I betcha that she
WILL remember thissun . . . I remember mine from when I wuzz
two years old, believe it or leave it, forty-eight years ago.
Gotta hand it to ya, Validus! You're a man of talent! Good luck
in your continuing hair cultivation adventure as of el primero
de noviembre, Signor!
Happy All Hallow's Eve everyone,
Quenyan
i have much experience in the costume department. if only i had pictures easly available...
but yes, make-up works quite well on a bald cap. they're made for it. even if you just want to be bald (without being green), you gotta put make up on to blend with your natural color.
so there! :)

bad move man, not really the brightest thing you'll ever do considering you can get things that make you appear bald, and to waste 5 months of growing your hair just to play a character for one night?
you'll definately regret it
I dig what you're saying, Beanz, and for a lot of people that may be true, but I'm not sweating it. There's nothing more useless than regret, so I tend to avoid it. Life is so much more entertaining if you allow yourself to maintain a sense of cheerful indifference, and just enjoy things as they are. In this case, in my present moment, I'm enjoying the feeling of cool breezes across my bare scalp, and I'm really looking forward to having fun with my kids on Halloween.
As for the hair, it grows back fast (I average about 3/4" per month).
Well, if you really are non fussed about it then thats fine, i know i would regret it though
While being bald scares me, I can see why you did it. Any other method of baldness would not be the same and I can see that this is something you'd give up a few inches of hair for. Of course, this does obligate you to do the costume well.
Personally I do not know what costume I will try to toss together but it will most definitely have long hair.
Good to see though that you have a plan for next Hallowe'en.
Well it's amazing what mad things people will do for Halloween and after all it will grow back and okay 5 months about where he should have been.
Still even though we seem to have inherited/imported the festival over there people don't quite go quite as mad. I have the man trap ready for those darling kids!
Cheers,
John.B
Well, Validus, the good news is that since you weren't terribly far along into your hair growth journey, it probably wasn't all that much of a sacrifice to shave your head for Halloween. Having won a few Halloween costume contests myself over the years (3 first-place prizes, to be exact, --- all at large San Francisco Ballroom or Swing dance events), I totally understand what it sometimes takes to go "all out" for this holiday!!...
The most amazing Halloween costume I ever saw, though, was at my favorite SF C&W bar several years ago.... This guy walked int the door, all dressed up as, "The Bride & Groom", --- he was literally BOTH!!! Half of his body was male; the other half was female. The left side of him was in a full, floor-length ivory-white bridal gown; the right side of him was in a formal tuxedo! His female half sported a clean-shaven face with a bewautiful make-up job, including ruby red lips (but, only on the LEFT half of his lips), --- and shoulder-length, beautifully-curled blonde hair ((HIS OWN).... His male half had short, dark hair, --- and he had a full beard & mustache! I have NEVER been more awes in my life by such a costume, --- AND, WHAT A SACRIFICE THAT MUST HAVE BEEN FOR HIM THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Think about it... in order for him to be able to return back to, "normal", he would have had to both shave off his beard & mustache AND cut off what was left of his long hair (and probably he even had to shave his head, --- since the left half of his hair was also dyed blonde!!)
Well, truth be told, I just do NOT have it within me to make such a sacrifice anymore: I'd lose around 7 1/2 years of hair growth if I did anything like that!
Anyway, my best to you; but, I hope you never have to shave your head again!!!

Thanks for the feedback, y'all. I'll keep everyone posted.
