OK, it's time for some history... (yawn) YOU UP THE BACK, STOP YAWNING AND PAY ATTENTION!
This is Lapstone Bridge. Photo circa 1914. It's built of sandstone and was built by convicts in 1833, near Penrith Western Sydney.
It was closed down in the 80's when the motorway was built.
These 2 bloopers are me under an archway. Bored teenagers like to graffiti and burn things under here at night. Also they leave beer bottles and UDL cans behind. Don't they know the recycle truck just dosn't stop here anymore?????
20 years ago my grandparents used to take us for bushwalks that passed through here. No graffiti then. Oh well.
This is the top of the bridge. You can almost still see the old double yellow lines in the middle of the photo. In Australia we drive on the left, thankyou very much! Or if you are a bored drunken lout and it's between dusk and dawn on a Friday or Saturday night, if you drive somebody elses car onto the bridge by smashing through the locked gate at the end of the bridge you can go on whichever side of the road you like, even in circles if you are clever, or at least a semi circle if you are not. Hence the black chunks of rubber on the road you can see in the photo below. (I obviously don't go there at night).
And here I am near the archway I was seen inside before!
And finally back on the road deck. The concrete sides were added after the old photo at the top, I can only assume people were smashing through the old timber railing too much before they were put in.
Thankyou for putting up with my Hairstory lesson!
Take care,
MattT
