Hi, i used to have shoulders length hair, it was curly and brown, it was awesome, i was so confident in myself, so happy.....yeah, i had a little balding spot on my crown but my hair was so curly that no one could notice...even in july, 4 months ago i had no problem going out. Well, from the beginning of this month my hair started falling like crazy, first there was a lot on my shirts, on the car, on the floor around me in class....i was scared, i was allways passing my hands on my shoulders because there was so much hair and i was ashamed....even working with classmates there was allways hair falling on the table. Well, i had redness and pimples on the scalp and my dermatologist gave me isotretinoin and another thing to put on my scalp 20min before washing my head. My hair now is dry, my mouth is dry too because of the medicine, and everytime i take a bath and my head is wet i can see a BIG balding spot, all over my scalp! I have to comb my hair back from the middle of my head and wear it on a ponytail, you can see a balding spot anyway. I dont know what to do! im 20years old. Sorry to be boring but i dont have anyone else to talk too.
Gosh, that's pretty scary... I supose that if it was not gradually, I mean, if it happened all of a sudden, as you said, it can be a bigger problem. I'm not sure but I think that if it was MPG it wouldn't leave the redness and it would happen gradually, and not in 4 months.
I don't know a lot about this topic but I am sure someone will help you. I wish you the best luck and I do hope you will resolve this problem and grow your hair back =) Best of luck to you!
Oh, and if you already asked your dermatologist about this, what did he/she say? If you didn't, you should hurry up and go!
Go back to the dermatologist and ask him/her "What the hell are the side-effects of that medicine you gave me, and what's going on with my hair???" Something doesn't sound right with this all of a sudden shedding, if it's as bad as you say. If it was just a balding spot at the crown or receded temples, then I'd just say poor you has MPB, "hie thee to the propecia and Rogaine."
According to Wikipedia, isotretinoin is a treatment for severe acne, used only after other treatments have failed, and it's common side effects include reduction of sebum (the natural oil in your hair) and hair thinning!!!
I think you may need to find a new dermatologist! The stuff they gave you may get rid of the rash, but if it makes your hair dry up and fall out even more, which it does simply as a known and common side effect, then it wasn't a good choice of treatment to begin with. Using this as an initial treatment, i.e. without trying other things first, seems to be frowned upon, and for good reason. The complete list of side effects is as long as your arm. You may be able to get the same person to prescribe a different treatment, but if there was ever a case for getting a second opinion, this is it.
I have no medical qualifications, but if it quacks it's a duck, if you know what I mean (hint).
As has already been stated more or less you need to seek medical help and maybe a second opinion. There are nemerous ways to deal with hair loss effectively you need to find the right doctor though.
Goood luck
Kevin
It may not be acne, it may be something else, and the treatment may be making it worse. You need another doctor, and another opinion.

Others have already pointed it out, but whenever a process like this happens quickly and would normally take years instead of weeks, then there could be some problem of which the hair loss is just a symptom. If it were me, I'd get another opinion - pretty quickly - to make sure the issue is accurately defined. Please keep us advised, and I deeply hope you get this resolved soon.
