I havent started going bald(yet, ime only 16 so it could happen later), but somtimes i imagine what it would be like... and its horrible to think about, everytime i see a bald person in the street i think to myself, that could be me oneday and i judge how it looks on them etc, the worst thing about longhair is the fear of losing it one day.............
I think one of the worst things about going bald would be the mockery i would recieve from my family, they never really wanted me to have long hair and it would be much to their delight humor if i lost my hair.....
*One note i must make though is my strong feelings against anti-balding treatments, if i start going bald ime not going to even look at rogaine etc. its a money dump and dosent work to the degree i would like...
what would you do and think if you realised one day you were going bald?
Not much. Buy a hat, maybe? It's more honest than a wig. I'm not much struck with the idea of applying something that must be applied for life just to keep the regrowth from vanishing (Rogaine), and the thought of something that tampers with male hormones (Propecia) seems scary and not atall worth it. Surgical hair replacement would be out too, as I wouldn't want to go under the knife if I didn't really, really, have to. If others want to do these things that's up to them.
Male pattern baldness doesn't prevent you from having long hair, but the hair on certain parts of your head stops growing. It does provide an excuse for some people to tell you to cut off your hair, but only if they don't like long hair to begin with. Personally, I think long hair and bald on top still beats short hair and bald on top.
I totallt agree with you Elektros, i think it can look kinda cool on some guys who are bald on top but still have long hair, i mean why cut of the good stuff?:D

A bandana would also be good. Think Hulk Hogan.
It would depend how the baldness went.
If it's a hole in the back of the head, then I'm going the Stone Cold Steve Austin route.
If it's in the front, I'll see how long I can milk it before it recedes all the way back. I mean, Jake The Snake Roberts looked pretty damn good with that look.
Up until recently I would have said I'd just shave my head and move on. I'd also have felt that every balding man should shave too. That is one way to go, but now I'm realizing that my response might well be different if I were dealing with 2+ years of hair growth. My consciousness is being raised about the longhair community and long hair in general.
I look at long haired men very differently now. First I notice them more, and secondly, I now know the time and commitment involved to grow mid-back length hair. I'm not sure what I would say in two years when I'm able to call myself a longhair, but I can assure all that my awareness has changed and I will never tell anyone what he should do with his hair! Today I'd have to be honest and say 'take it all off.'
Regards to all,

When I was a short hair, I resigned myself to the fact that I was gradually losing hair. That's life. I'm nowhere near as bad off in MPB as my father and uncles were at my age.
My decision to become a long hair started 18 months ago, around my 38th birthday. I had my last haircut and never went back. About 5 months ago I started using minoxidil just to see what it would do for me. There seems to be some slight improvement at this point, which at least means things aren't getting any worse. Still, come what may, I'm not in a hurry to shave off what hair I have.
I really admire the handsome manes that some of our members here have. However, I don't try to be just like anyone else, because I have my own unique characteristics. I just try to be the best that I can be with what I've got. That's the key to contentment.

Good Question !!
I truly believe that men of your generation will have several viable and affordable options to prevent or reduce MPB. There are several products on the market (and being used by guys on this board) that are producing favorable results.
That Said:
By the time most men start having significant hair loss there is an acceptance of aging by ones self, friends and family, so any serious ridicule is not an issue. I am still able to do a young man's job and have young men's hobbies. For that I am extremely grateful.....thin hair is an OK trade-off for that freedom.
I started noticing thinning when I was in my mid forties (and yes, I was horrified...) but as time went on, I realized that I would never be completely bald. I am now in my sixties, while it is growing slowly and will never be trangling in my toes, it is still growing; and as you can see, with the aid of a hat, I can pull off the longhair-look just fine.....in fact it is not bad without the hat.....more importantly I enjoy the way my hair looks and feels. Personally, I think it makes me look younger than I am, as when my hair was short, I did in fact look like an old man.
Since I have been on my longhair journey, I have been very aware that many men in my generation are letting their hair grow and many with varying degrees of thinning. Looks just fine and is well accepted in the casual South West U.S.
Enjoy what you have now, don't stress about losing it......IF you do experience MPB later in life, I am betting that their will be things going on in your life that will be much more important.
Again...Great question !!
Hope we hear from the "Skullet-Minority" of MLHH

I'm not doing a damn thing about it but letting my hair get longer and longer. Yes, I'm 33 now and getting thinned out at the crown and a higher and higher forehead. I'm cool with it and really never worried much about it whenever it began to happen a few years ago.
I can relate you. I know exactly how you feel. It would be horrible and it really pisses me off our gender is the one who's most affected lol
Let's just enjoy the hair we have now and someday even if we do go bald oh well... Maybe we'll have to adjust to it, maybe there'll be a permanent cure for MBP.
PS: About the family, my own one actually keeps me telling me "Please don't grow it long, you'll be bald soon" wtf? lol I keep telling them growing hair doesn't mean balding but if I bald someday I bet they'll blame it on that
I'd just shave my head. I'm probably going to buzz my hair in a few months, since I'm getting tired of long hair anyways. But I definitely wouldn't keep it as a skullet, haha.
