First, welcome to the board raj and it's great you want to grow your hair long again. I'm not sure if I can be of much help but here are some options for making your hair look a bit neater while it's in the awkward strange :
- you could wear a hat, caps, bandanna if you like the look and it will flatten it but be aware of 'hat hair'
- you could put products like gel and stuff but I wouldn't recommend it much since they're not really good for the general hair's condition
- grin and bear it :D (Links section on the site and you'll see this familiar phrase)
What I would like to stress is that you don't use hair straighteners to make it less curly because it would be damaging for your hair. About your last question : I'm sorry to say that there's nothing you can do if you want long and healthy hair. Straighteners or constant blowdrying straightening will damage curly hair the most since it tends to be drier.
So, good luck, and try to accept your curls if you want your hair to be long and healthy! =}
thanxs man really appriciate your advice
you said stay away from straighteners
what should i apply on my hair on daily basis

i use hair gel regularly
will that damage my hair

saw ur pic ur hair looks amazing wish i had hair like that
Hmmm... Gels are relative, some could be damaging and some not so much. Still, if you really feel like you need them you should use them once in a while, not very often IMO.
Since you said you have curly hair, the best thing to do is to see what works best on your hair. Is it dry like most curlyheads or a bit oily? If it's dry, wash it with shampoo less often and use conditioner and oils (Jojoba, Sunflower, Sweet almond, Olive). The average is to wash your hair twice a week but it's different for everyone.
If your hair is oily though I doubt it, you're lucky you won't need leave-in conditioners and oils. ;}
I think the only damaging gels are those which have alcohol in them. When I read that I went "Thank god, mine probably doesn't", then out of interest I checked and realised it was the main ingredient. Good thing I was only using it for a week (during my job).
