Hey, Im Brian, I discovered this forum awile back, but this is my first post. I think its really cool there is a site dedicated to men with long hair.
Ive been growing my hair for I would say a few years, maybe less, with trims over the period of growing. My hair is slightly past my shoulders and it is curly. It starts to curl in the middle of the back of my head. My problem is my hair gets really frizzy and kind of dry where it starts to curl. I wash my hair every other day or less. I use a moisterising shampo and conditioner. I brush while it is wet after showering, because when I brush it dry it turns into a huge ball of frizz. It seems when I wash it will kind of go away, but as the day goes on the frizz comes. It seems when i use a leave in conditioner in helps, but there will still be some frizz. But i was wondering if this is normal for long curly hair, or is my hair damaged or am I doing something wrong? Ive seinged my hair a few times on accident over the growing, i dont know if that has something to do with it. Ive actually thought of cutting my hair and regrowing, but I do not want to do that unless I have to because I got this far. Any opinions, advice, or tips would be helpful.
your still in the middle stage just a tad bit nothing to worry about whent he hair gets longer ityll get heavier and even out more and it wont be as frizzy!
... glad you found us!
You might want to try oil (jojoba, or even olive oil) applied before you shower. Leave in for a few minutes, then shampoo and condition, leaving the conditioner in for a few more minutes. Then finally rinse with cool water. Hope this helps.

I think i'm in a very similar situation myself.
Is this the kind of thing you're talking about?
If so, then i'm looking for a solution as well... I'd like to let my hair down more often, but it looks really bad, being as frizzy and puffy as it is.
I have this problem, too. Really frizzy, poofy hair. Unfortunately, i haven't found a solution either... i've yet to try oil, though. I'll have to give that a try.
But is this kinda what you're talking about?
Yes, I would have to say thats about exactly how my hair is. I dont know if it is genetic or what. But I will have to try the more conditoner and that oil.
I something that seems to help... after i took a shower, i waited until my hair was almost competely dry, then i brushed it all real well and pulled it back into a fairly tight segmented tail. I left that in for a day, and so far my hair has been ALOT better.
I've only done it this weekend though.
But I think you'll probobly have to redo it every once in awhile. Your hair will probobly start going back after awhile.
Hey Brian, To reiterate some of what Scooper said. Lots of conditioner a couple times a week and let it set in your hair for 3 minutes or longer before rinsing thoroughly.

I really apprieate all of the feedback. Ill be sure to try the more conditoner and oil, and ill let you know how that goes. But you guys with curly wavy hair. How do you go about brushing? Do you brush or comb when wet, to avoid the frizz? Or do you have ways of brushing when dry, without getting all the frizz? It seems from some of your pictures, some of your hair is very simular to mine.
Brian, Yes, I very seldom brush my hair dry. I brush it wet especially after conditioning. Finger combing or
brushing works quite well also.

Hi Brian,
I would certainly not advise you to cut as that is a waste of time and perhaps using more conditioner might help. I have thick hair and it's get frizzy at the back sometimes and good condtioner for me solves that but I know it will never perfect ends but that does not bother me. I didn't grow my hair out to have perfect ends, og look out the trimmers will be out for that perfect blunt cut!
Cheers,

I would suggest not brushing it while it's wet although that seems to help as you stated it may actually be part of the problem. Brushing your hair while wet instead of combing causes increased breakage which will make your hair look frizzy. Otherwise the others have said what I would say, more conditioner.
Good Luck
Kevin
