Hi Everyone. Just thought I would post a picture of me at a Ballroom Dance Competition last weekend. This is a picture of me and my student doing a Tango Routine that won 1st place. Since everyone here likes pony tail pictures, I knew that I had to post it here. There were no other guys with long pony tails at the competition, so I was truly one of a kind. I was also appearing in the musical "Clue" for several weeks, so things have been extremely busy for me the last few months. I know that everyone here is into heavy metal, but I am a musical theatre junkie at heart.
Keep the hair growing.
Del
Hey Man, that's a great picture! Congrats for taking 1st place. Not particularily into heavy metal myself, more of a "biker dude" that's into the "standards" but I could get into the ballroom thing and maybe even "Swing" if I had time.
Thanks for the great picture and congratulations on winning the competition! You are not alone in your love of Musical Theatre, other fans of Broadway are out here too. Silicon Valley is rich with community theatre. My other half has a vocal studio and many of the students perform in area productions. Also, we do monthly concerts that feature both Opera and Musical Theatre.
Our November concert is titled 'The Golden Age of Broadway'.
Cheers,
Don
Great photo, great tail....
...the MLHH has been the host of several "polls" on longhair tastes on several topics......musical tastes and talents cover the entire spectrum....I love piano from Classical to Ragtime and am currently building a Hammered Dulcimer.....
Walter White Tail
That is cool that you are making a dulcimer, do you play too? I don't play any instruments but I do love the sound of the dulcimer. Big fan of celtic music and those Appalachian dance tumes that are similar.
I play piano, so the transition to hammerered duclimer should not be too bad....I am looking forward to learning as I have loved the instrument since the first time I saw one. In addition to Celtic, they are also used in oriental and jazz style music (explore YOUTUBE under "hammered dulcimer"). Check the link below for something different.
I have the entire body built and am now in the sanding/finishing process which will take a couple of weeks with "dry time" in between coats....then drill out the pin blocks, set the tuning pins, string it and start "playing".

If it works out, maybe you can build another one and I'll buy it from you when I get to Uni? That would be cool :P

Oooooooh! Look at that fab tail. And congrats on the win. You certainly had a lovely dance partner. No metalhead here, I'm more a mainstream and classic rock type person. I do like musicals, though. Rodeger's and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, Victor Herbert, Gilbert and Sullivan, and all that.

Congratulations on the 1st place win Del, you sure are quite talented (and busy too)! That is a terrific picture!
Take care Del!
Hey Chris. It was good to hear from you. I'm assuming that you are still a longhair (even if you are not a longhair at heart LOL), but if you are not that is great also because hair does not make the man (even though alot of us around here seem to think it does LOL). Your post on your issues with your hair was very insightful and interesting. Best of Luck always. Maybe you should try some ballroom dance classes, they certainly are fun! Don't worry, they don't make you lift the girls in the air until at least the second or third lesson.
Del
Congrats on the win Del, and what good picture! Even in the still picture, you make it look easy!
I like to listen to prog rock, alternative, country, celtic, world, metal, and yes even some musicals, just about anything that doesn't come from a can.
Take care,
Bruce
That woman is wearing my dress!! And that was supposed to be MY Tango routine! MY dance routine, I say, --- MINE! MINE!! MINE!!! (Lol)
All kidding aside, del: a big CONGRATS to you!!!! (And no, I couldn't even FIT one LEG into that dress - lol!!)
You and your student look absolutely stunning out there on the dance floor! Just a quick question: are you dancing American Tango, International Tango, or Argentine Tango? (I assume International; but, just thought I'd ask, anyway....)
- Ken
Hey Ken. Yes, my student does have some amazing ballgowns. Her dresses are the envy of every student at my studio. The routine we were doing was mostly International Tango with alot of lifts and a little Argentine flavor just to make it original and fun. I like mixing styles and taking the best from different styles. Tonight, we will dance that routine again at my studio showcase. Hope that you are having fun with your dancing.
Del
Maybe you should take a video of it? That would be awesome, seeing the hair in motion :P
Hi Del,
I just wanted to congratulate you and your student on the win, that is awesome! Also, that is an amazing, LONG ponytail that you have!
Take care,
David
Hey David. Thank you and I am glad to hear that you are doing well. Longhairs are few and far between in the ballroom world, so it is nice to score a win when my appearence is a little different.
Del
AWESOME!
I guess I can lump dancesport and ballroom dancing into one category for the sake of argument. The argument is this: All the women wear buns, and all the men have short haircuts. Way to break the mold!!!
Oh and for the record, i'm not into heavy metal. I like Symphonic metal but that's about it on the metal side of things.
I definitely like breaking the mold and bringing longhair to the ballroom world. Alot of people look like they came out of a cookie cutter mold, so it is fun to look a little different. I hear so many guys here talk about heavy metal that I think everyone here is only into that type of music. It's nice to know that some of us also like other types of music. Nothing against metal, but how can anyone beat Cole Porter or Gershwin.
Del
Well forget "Dancing with the Stars"!

Hey John. I love "Dancing with the Stars" as it is great fun to watch and a great advertizement for my business. We always get an influx of new people each time a new season comes out. Maybe someday, I'll get to see the English version.
Del
Hi Del its great to see you back again as I was wondering where you've been.Well at least my worst fears weren't realized that maybe, maybe you decided to cut your hair but now I know that didn't happen:)Anyway sounds like you've been a really busy guy and its great to hear about what you have been up to lately. Also I offer my congrats on the first place in the competeition.HMMMMMM maybe the judges gave you extra points for not getting blinded in your routine by your flying mane!LOL.Well I'm sure its was a great time as you do have a great attitude about your work.Take care Del and drop my a note if you have time:) Mark
Hey Mark. I'm happy to hear that you are doing well. My life has been crazy for the past two months, but the craziness ends with my studio showcase which happens tonight. Hopefully, life will return to a normal pace. Of course, I haven't cut my hair as I am trying to let it get as long as yours (I think I have about 4-5 inches to go). Have a great weekend.
Del
Hi Del, that is a really classy picture. You look so crisp and cool in the suit with a ponytail, it just goes to show long hair doesn't have to mean scruffy as so many think. And, congratulations Del on a great result - well done Del!!
Regards Dave
... is into heavy metal. well, i like some. but i prefer opera. so there. :) a few friends and i go to musicals quite regularly, and if we were in your area we surely would've gone to clue. that sounds like fun!
congratulations on your win! that's an awesome picture. next time show us some dancing hair!
peace,
