I tried to post this last night, but apparently, I had posted too much yesterday. Disregard the fact that it's no longer "past my bedtime." ~grin~
I don't remember where I found the link to here, I think it was in a humor email list. I saw the name and clicked out of curiosity. I've always been a fancier of men with long hair, mainly it's the non-conformist attitude, or the perception I have thereof. Anyhow, while I had hoped to mainly lurk and admire pics here, I started posting with suggestions, and decided that if I'm going to be active in any way, I ought to introduce myself.
Short bit: Hi, I'm Juli. I'm single, female, 44yo.
Long, rambling bit due to it being past my bedtime: Back 13 years ago, my hair was down to my waist, then I started dating a man who wanted me to fit in with his idea of what a (potential) wife and mother should look like. I had it cut to just below my shoulders and styled with layers and such. The relationship ended shortly after, but only recently have I decided to let it grow back. So, I know the hassles of long-hair care and the awkwardness of when various layers are at exactly the wrong length, both too long and too short at the same time, and having to fight the urge to trim back to a more manageable state.
Back in April, I had a bit of a mid-life crisis. I decided my options were: 1. Get a fancy car, 2. Run away from home and possibly join a circus, 3. Get a tattoo, 4. Take up with a guy half my age, or 5. Do something fun with my hair. I decided the hair was the easiest, cheapest, and would be the least painful to get rid of when I tired of it. I was amazed at the reactions. My uncle's wife, with whom I worked at the family farm, said that I could lose friendships over it. It's HAIR! You can't lose a friend over hair. You can lose someone you never needed in your life to begin with, but not a friend. Needless to say, she lost even more of what little respect I had for her.
Out of respect for the pic rules and dial-up users, I have a clicky below for those who want to see what I did with my hair in April.
MidLife Crisis
Hi Juli, welcome to the board. As an experienced longhair you should be able to add to the body of knowledge here.
My hair growth is probably the result of a 'boomer' crisis. I must say I'm past midlife, unless I live to 125! LOL
You chose a a good option to express yourself by growing your hair, but they all have appeal. I'd be good a circus clown during my Bozo like awkward stage. I'm seriously thinking of a tattoo. That would push me a bit out of my comfort zone! Something Celtic or tribal with meaning for me. Hummm...a Celtic knot of braided hair?
Cheers,
Don
Welcome to the board and thanks for your contribution and I'm sure with having longhair for white and I'm sure you have a wealth of great longhair care tips.
Cheers,
John.B
Sadly, the MLHH has been the butt of jokes, but hey, we'll take the free publicity! It brought YOU here! :-)
Carol, single, female, 46 yo.
Ugh! I think I'd leave someone like that too. I had waist to tailbone length in my teen years. As an adult, it never went too far past my shoulders.
Hahaha! I didn't have any of those options, so the hair was the immediate choice. I decided I want to grow old, and turn white, with long hair I can braid and bun. Kind of like a beloved great aunt of mine, who wore her long silver locks up for years, while her peers chopped theirs off and used curlers.
Mine, about a month ago, in the picture you see in this post.
Welcome to the hyperboard, and the growing group of female supporters of men with longhair.
Carol
