cant believe i didn't include this picture in my recent update but yea heres the back of my head :{ ]
now for my question
mane and tail has had this build up effect on me although my hair does look great the build up is quite the turn off so i was wondering what shampoo everyone uses?
I've used mane n tail before and never experienced the build-up that you are currently experiencing. Then again, we might apply the conditioner differently. I only apply it to the bottom half of my hair. I never apply any conditioner on my scalp. I am currently using 'Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut Conditioner' and ' Clairol Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curls & Waves Shampoo'. Before these I was using ' L'Oreal Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Shampoo for Medium to Long Hair that's Curly/Wavy' and the same conditioner as well. It was pretty good but a bit too heavy for my taste. Too many cones and too waxy.
thanks for the feed back chris how you liking the semi chilly weather we've been having down here :{ ] i never apply conditioner to the scalp either so im not sure how its applied is the issue
take care friend :{ ]
I'm loving it. The weather is great these days. It stays around the 70's during the day and drops to the high 60's during the evening. Can't get better than that. Take care and good luck finding a shampoo/conditioner that works for you.
Take care
Sorry Kal El, son of Jor El, savior of Earth, hope of Krypton, gatekeeper of the Phantom Zone, ex- of Lana Lang, future husband of ace journalist Lois Lane, sorry! I am much the culprit in this, seeing that tis I, not thee, who had originated the endorsement FOR the Mane'n Tail line.
Ya might wanna jus' try a dilute apple cider vinegar wash; hey, if that can remove scales fr. seborrheac build-up AND heal the skin, wouldn't it stand to reason that it will remove build-up fr. the aforemention'd product as well?
Once again, Kal El, I apologise for the negative report. I've never had a problem with it. Then again, I DO tend to have horsey hair ( *neeeeeeeeeigh!* )
Yours for hair problem-solving,
Quenyan
please my friend the information you provided me about mane n tail was completely accurate the shampoo and conditioner work amazingly i guess different strokes for different folks on this one thanks very much for your advice :{ ] im hearing a lot about a vinegar wash but is that something you have to mix or buy?
again thank you my long haired brethren
take care :{ ]
do you pass it through your hair after wash do you scrub it in brush it or what? put it this way if these were instructions on the back of the bottle what would they say :{ ]
After mixin' a 50/50 ratio o/t alchemical elixir(half Heinz brand apple cider vinegar, half didtill's water or trustworthy spring water), while in the shower, or, w/ trust'd friend doing this w/ your head resting snuggly in the sink, rinse FIRST w/ regular water, once your hair's good and soak'd, THEN do the wash o/t apple cider mixture, jus' the sayem as washing wour hair w/ shampoo. Then shampoo out w/ your regular, uhm, uh, but, uh, apparently NOT the Mane 'n Tail.
Now, wait, I'm gettin' reservations abt. this whole process, Kal El; vinegar solutiona (as well as lemon juice ones) have been used for CENTURIES to lighten ones hair. Your hair's a great natural black. I wouldn't wantcha t' turn brunette, or lighter, for gripe's sake . . . sigh . . .
There's jus' GOTTA be sump'n ehyulse out there for ya! Chris H. might've cast the right ballot w/ his suggstion (Hey, man, you're STILL slated for starring as the mad butler in my the-gods-only-know-WHEN-it'll-ever-be-made RE-make of Universal's classic "The Old Dark House"! Solid, man!), but it'll always be a process of trial and error. Yeesh. Good luck, bruh!
Chemyste AND mixologist extraordinaire,

Many years ago I shared a house with other people, and for a while there was a girl there who was a research chemist at a place where they developped shampoo among other things. She told us that all shampoo causes buildup, and that the way around it is to switch between different shampoos.
She brought shampoo home from the lab in unmarked bottles for everyone to use! She also added different colourings to each type so she could tell them apart (not necessarily to identify them, but just to be able to rotate between them). The substances she added were not ones that would colour hair, but just the same things they added to finished products so that a 'kiwi' shampoo would look green or a 'strawberry' one would look red, etc.
All that said, I think it may be mainly shampoos containing silicones that cause buildup. It could be that all that company's formulations had them.
Hi Kal El
Sorry to hear about your hair care issues but actually I'm surprised that shampoo is doing that to your hair. For me too much shampoo really dries my hair big time so I only use a small dab at the top of my head and rinse it down from there. Then I'll follow it up with the conditioner. I also find that I have to rotate my product as well because after a while using the same thing my hair stops responding well to what worked good before. So its safe to say I have a variety of different product and never seem to stay with any one for a long period.Right now I use L'oreal vive pro. for medium to long hair that's normal to fine followed by infusium 23 conditioner step 2.After towel drying I use a leave in conditioner which is Aussie Hair Insurance.LOL. Well sounds like a lot but it seems to leave my hair nice at this point.Anyway hope this helps and let us all know how you make out down the road.Mark
I used diluted Baby Shampoo.....no build up and keeps the frizzes down too....usually follow with deep conditioning of olive oil (rinsed well afterward)
WWT
Kal El, I use Pantene Smooth and Sleek about 3 or 4 times a week and Pantene or Neutrogena clarifying shampoo once a week.
A Pantene conditioner after the clarifying!
Good results with this regimine.
your hair looks awesome. Nice and thick and oh so dark! Cool!
peace, jonalbear
I used mane and tail a few times long ago and don't remember
build up but didn't like the way my hair felt afterwards.
I use boring old Pantene classic care. The main reason is I found it on sale for half off and bought a boatload of it, such a deal!
It doesn't do anything bad to my hair and the end results are good.
Although many longhairs hate it so who knows.
