I was just wondering if anyones had dreds before how it turned out and would you reccomend them to me?
personally I'd say it looks good the way it is
I've had dreds. A word to the wise, Mat. Don't do 'em. If you're in the B & W shot NOW, what w/ those great wavy tresses, you're gonna wonder, "WHAT THE (blank) DID I DO!?" Back in '91 I did 'em. My hair's around your consistency, too. It was WAY too high maintenance for me. Feh. Definitely not worth it.
This is NOT to say that some people aren't naturally suited to 'em. Some of my closest friends are dreadlock'd.

Buddy of mine had dreds a few years ago. Not too long after he cut everything off and regretted dred-ing his hair. He's got non-dredded hair these days. But, to each his/her own.

Some like, some don't. Some regret, some are happy with them. All depends on the person.
Too bad there isn't a "Dred Wig available for those unsure so that they could actually see what they would look like ahead of time. Then, give it a months thought before going for it if this is their desire rather than a passing whim.
... but it takes many hours.
This isn't a sales pitch, but check out www.knottyboy.com for the best advice and products in the world of dreadlocks. They even have a removal kit that allows you to take them out without chopping your hair off.
They also have a 20-minute free video that shows a guy going through the process of having his hair dreaded. It will give you a great idea of what it's all about.
I guess what I'm getting at is that, despite what many people say, getting dreadlocks isn't an "all-or-nothing" decision, and if you get them and don't like them, you can remove them without cutting off your hair. Keep in mind, though, that your hair WILL be damaged from dreading, so it might not be an entirely regret-free experience if you get them, don't like them, and decide to remove them.
Judging from your picture, I think dreads could be a really good look for you, if you maintain them well. Your hair looks great now, too... it's purely a question of your own personal preference.
