Hi all:
First time poster here...
I am growing my hair out for the winter (last haircut was in mid-July, decently short), along with a beard. I am shooting for shoulder-length, but that's it.
Just had a question regarding moisturizing the scalp. I saw a few people post about small little white bits that show up when combing the hair in the morning. This is happening to me, but it definitely isn't dandruff, just a dry scalp. Also I can feel little tiny bumps that chaffe off now and then....which tells me my scalp is reeallly dry. I am using a 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner, and usually every day. The brand is "Exact Pro-Vitamin extra volume".
Does anyone have any suggestions for moisturizing the scalp in addition to just using shampoo/conditioner? Read some stuff about oil...but I have no clue what kind of oil can be used for the scalp.
Thanks!
You might be better off just using a conditioner if your scalp is very dry. Shampoos tend to get rid of the oils your hair follicles make, and since your hair is still fairly short, there isn't much of a chance for oil to become much of a problem.
Best of luck.
Hi Johnny. Good to have you on the board.
You may be using too much shampoo when you wash. Try cutting back to a small "fingernail" sized dollip. Suds it up in your fingers and apply it to just your scalp. You won't get as much foam as you're used to. Condition all over.
About shampoo and conditioner products. Try to get products that have as little synthetics as possible. These really strip the natural oils from your hair. If you're reading the label and can't understand the chemical analysis, then your hair probably can't either. Stay away from "...parabins" and "...cones".
Everyone here has read about my Lush attraction. I really like their solid shampoos because they are mostly natural. They appear expensive. However, a bar used as minimally as I've described above will last months.
If you're really wanting to mosturize quickly, try a small amount of olive oil on your scalp before bed. Shampoo in the morning.
Good luck!
