ive been wondering what is nappy hair people tell me thats how my hair looks like .. its kind of wavy but its very thick...

"Nappy hair." IMO is a derogatory term used to describe the hair type of a black person.
It is kind of a derogatory term...but it means having very little tight curls. It also means having "naps" in the hair which are like tangles. Naps in the hair can result from a lack of combing and hair care. It could be natural for you though.
. . . havin' been close w/ non-white and/or racially-mix'd families over the years, "nappy hair" IS NOT necessarily a condescending term, but merely describes a coarse quality of hair, not usually characteristic of those of us of European descent. "Kinky" is another interchangeable term, which, for obvious reasons, has largely fallen from popular usage.
Why, I have even BEEN present when such families and friends referred to one another's hair as "nice naps", meaning more manageable, less fly-away and unruly. Remember the hair care product Afro-Sheen? It was gear'd towards making "nappy" quality hair more styleable.
