Hi all,
I've started using Alberto VO5 conditioning hairdressing. It creates great shine and the hair is much improved moisture wise.
I apply a small amount of it often on dry or damp hair. It's mainly lanolin. I like the fact that it is a cream, oils are great but this is so much easier to apply.
It's an old product but it works on my dry curly hair.
Anybody else tried it?
Don
I've never used VO5 products, but if it's doing you good it might be worth giving it a try. Thanks for the tip.
Hi Patrick,
It works for me, not as greasy as pomade and not crunchy/drying like gels. It doesn't control but my hair is not dry, looks darker and is shiny.

I have tried it and there's usually a tube in my bathroom drawer. It's a product that has been around for decades, and it's my belief that if a product has been around that long it must have it's benefits. But like the old ad with Brylecream..."a little dab will do ya!"...a tiny amount is what works.
The only thing I don't like is the smell...the perfume formula is a tad sweet for me, but that's just me. And it does fade after an hour or so.
But an oil based product will, I think, work really well with your hair, like VO5... I would only use a squirt the size of the opening in the tube, which is really small!
Hi Guymarch,
Thanks for the reply. I use the product from the jar and take more than you recommend. My hair really soaks it up, but you are right, too much will make ones hair oily. The smell doesn't bother me much. They make a 'silver' version for gray hair. I's blue in color; I don't want to have blue hair. It's bad enough to be mistaken for a woman, but a blue haired lady...can't go there! LOL
Peace,
Don
Ah, interesting. Do you apply the VO5 when your hair is damp or dry? I'm wondering if that makes a difference. And I'm wondering if for really long hair if it would be beneficial to apply some to the ends daily? (I wash my hair now just twice a week due to it's length.) I'll try the VO5 that's in my bathroom drawer on my ends and see how it works.

Don,
I have used V05 just on the tips before too greasy for me though. I also use Dr. Bronner's body lotion on the ends of my hair too. Smells good and it is all natural hemp lotion (Patchouli Lime) plus it helps to tame the frizzies on the ends. In a previous posting I stated I only wash my hair with shampoo a couple of times a month the rest of the time I wash it with conditioner. Soft, shiny, smelly good hair mmmmmm.

Hi EarthyGirl,
Thanks for the reply. Yes it can be greasy if I use too much. My curly hair soaks it up quickly though. So far it works really well for me. It helps keep the hair soft and shiny.
