Hey Folks,
Well .its the 22nd month now and I am getting all that close to the 2 year mark. However I have begun noticing that I seem to have quite a few split ends, tangled hair resulting in a lot of hair breakage. As a result my hair length is not quite where I would want it to be.
What are the remedies for split ends and tangles? Ive heard a trim could work quite well in getting rid of the split ends. But as I am inching (no pun intended) ever so close to the 2-year mark, I dont want to take any chances either. What would you guys suggest?
PS: I had signed up to be listed as part of the directory almost three weeks back but havent received any communication on my e-mail ID. Could one of the Mods please help me out.?

First off, your long hair is looking sensational and ever so healthy! Good work.
As for the "Split-ends." Many of us on the Hyperboard have adopted a saying when dealing with them: "Target and Destroy." In otherwords, no trim is needed at this time. "ONLY" the hairs with the splits are dealt with. This can be done by yourself or go to a salon and tell them this is ALL you want done............NO TRIM!
The best way to attack a split end is to cut just above the split and it HAS to be snipped with something extremely sharp as dull sissors can set you up for even more problems.
Best of luck to you in getting rid of these nastys.....and the sooner the better.
I will report the photo thing to the moderators. Just hang in there. :-)
Thanks Justin. Much appreciated!! I was hoping not to get a trim either.
Great hair! Looks to be very healthy, and with split ends, as Justin was mentioning, you can do the search and destroy method, or if it really is too overwhelming, a small trim isn't the end of the world. Best of luck to you. =)

Hi Kidname,
Your hair looks fabulous, and that is excellent length for only 22 months. Justin has given you great advice already about what to do if you are concerned about splits, and hope this does the trick for you.
As for getting listed in the User's Directory, Justin has already given you an answer, but you can be assured that we are doing all we can to get you listed as quickly as possible. Welcome to our community!
Keep it growing,
David
Wow, Kidmane, that's some good-quality mane, dude! It's actually very long for 22 months of growth and it's very healthy (despite the split ends you said it had) If you hadn't mentioned them, no one would even say you had something wrong with your hair.
The serach & destroy method like the others suggested is the best alternative. You could also get a trim after another 2 months if you want to hit your 2 years mark first so much.
Trimming is the ONLY way to take care of split-ends. They will just continue up the entire hair shaft, thus losing the entire strand. So trim the split off and save the shaft, OR let it split all the way up and lose the entire hair shaft.
For me the choice is obvious. In addition, you'll be amazed at how many fewer tangles you'll have.
Also, your hair will look much better.
I agree with this and it isn't a majority virew round these parts I think. The journey is that bit longer if you trim just a little but the results I think in very healthy looking hair.
Hey Kidmane, Your hair looks fantastic. I'm no hair-care expert but I would definitely go with Justin's advice. Good luck and keep it growing!
Your hair length looks about right for 2 years growth, .5in/month. I think Justin's advice, seek and destroy is perfect. I use a magnifying glass. Sometimes when you seek you might not find much to destroy. Good luck.

If you decide to get a trim, make sure you can trust the trimmer to not go crazy! Tell them you want a "dusting", and make sure that they understand that you want to keep as much of your length as possible. If you don't know a barber you can trust, ask around to find one who FOLLOWS INSTRUCTIONS!!! I went to one who thought she knew better, and I ended up with a mullet!! (eeeewwwww!!!!) She said this was HER favorite look, despite what I told her I wanted.
Good Luck!!!

Well from the photos the split ends don;t seem so bad and as for the tangles maybe use more conditioner or a leave in. As for a trim to get rid of them it may be a good idea to get a small trim but hard to say from my vantage point.
Good luck
Kevin
