Hey Everyone... seems my laptop has decided to jump off a cliff and commit suicide, as the screen on it has died. Therefore, my internet access will be quite limited for the next few days until I can figure out my plan of attack to conquer this issue. Thankfully, all my important files (including my website stuff) are on an external hard drive that I can use on any computer (phew!). So... until then, hope everyone is well. There have been quite a few awesome updates lately, and I apologize for not being able to respond to them individually. Keep it growing, guys! =)

James,
Look around at garage sales and thrift stores from on older CRT monitor. You can plug that into the external video port on your laptop. You should be able to pick one up for peanuts as everyone is moving to flat panel displays.

Hi James
Sorry to hear about your computer problems but like Mike suggested if its only the display at issue for now just pic up a smaller LCD flat panel as even they have gone way down in price. Not sure what your budget is but if you could swing it I'd get a Mac:)I've been using an ibook that approaching 4 yrs.old and it has been great as I'd definately buy another when the time comes.Other than that your hair has been looking fabulous so better get back online quick so we can see your updates:)Take care and good luck.Mark
Hey James
What a bummer. I now have a new computor as of last Monday because my old one jumped in a lake and fried! Getting used to and knowing what to do with this new "thing" is quite confusing.
Sometimes I can't even get on this board. (Okay everyone else, you don't have to rub it in and cheer.) :-0
Will be glad when all is worked out for you James and you will be back.
Take care
Justin~
I couldn't get away with the "My Computer Broke!" excuse. I have at least 30 computers laying around. From Intel 8086 to AMD 64 PCs to a DEC Alpha workstation. A have a few servers here too. Some old UNIX systems. :-) Anyone got an old mainframe they want to unload? LOL
Reason for this is, I collect old, odd, and interesting computers. I only have 4 to 6 online at a time. The rest are just shelved. Lots of parts here too. I have a 20 MB ST-412 (MFM) interface hard drive from 85 that still works! Nothing is more fun then taking some old parts in to work to show young PC techs who never have even seen this stuff. I feel old now. LOL
Oh ho! Another one (a collector, that is).
Computers are wonderful fascinating pieces of machinery, and I'm happy to have had years of exposure to them. I, too, would have precisely *no* excuse for being "offline" even if the "online" bits were over a 300 bps acoustic-coupler dialup!
I "collect" as well, but my specialty is minicomputers from the '60s and '70s. It's not strange at all for me to be fiddling with 35 year old gear that works just as well today as the day it was first fired up. (Although, I do have to admit that time is rather hard on some of the component parts like rubber capstans and drive bits....)
So, when I plop myself down in front of an original Data General NOVA from 1972, I actually look the part! Long hair and all.
Don't. Feeling old is no fun when you're feeling it for real.

Keep it growin' lads!
Decided to bite the bullet and got a new laptop. My old one was starting to fall apart in other ways anyway. So far I'm loving this new one, and my mother is going to use my old computer for office work with a docking station back in Colorado, so it all worked out okay. Thanks for your guys' concern and wishes. Now... back to the long hair! =)

So what kind of laptop did you get?
Acer Extensa 5620 =)
