Anyone living near a big city/university library with bound archives of periodicals should check out the following magazine for some great styles and setting patterns
- The Home Economist, 1958-1965. I think this magazine went out of print after that, but there are some great bouffant styles and roller sets in every issue. They even have a "hairdo of the month".
- Old Mademoiselle, 1969-1975. This was when the big magnetic rollers (my personal preference) were used for straightening hair.
- Ladies Home Journal
Any other publications such as Woman's Day, Redbook and Cosmopolitan. Also, around 1965 or so was when the home hairdrying market was really established, so there are lots of cool ads with the big hood dryers.
I used to hang out in the big library we had in college and check these out. It's pretty scary what some people do with their spare time - it's amazing that I even graduated!
