So I've stopped using shampoo forget how long it has been now, 2 months maybe 3. I wash my hair 2-3x a week using water and conditioner. Since I stopped using shampoo I no longer have dandruff problems and my hair is way less dry. The only times I have 'problems' with it being too puffy is immediatley after it has air dried after a washing. Usually I wear a hat or bandana as it dries and it lays flat. I use garnier sleek and shine leave in conditioner, and also infusium 23 both are working really well.

Your hair really looks great, Helgast. Ditching the shampoo was a brilliant move. Your curls are more open and even now. I do remember all the problems you previously had with matting and tangling, to the point of cutting it all off and starting over. Many people (but not all) with curly hair do better with water only, with a bit of conditioner. Whatever you are doing now works splendidly well for you. You should be able to grow it very long with ease now.

Really really cool Helgast, dropping the shampoo was a great idea for you as your hair looks exceptional and very natural. I too went this route and never looked back.

That water and conditioner only method is working quite well for you. Your hair doesn't seem to have built up too much oil or conditioner in it during that time. Seems only a few rare guys can do that routine but your hair looks great with it.

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! I'm definitely loving having long hair this time, every stage of growing has been great. On the few rare 'bad' hair days I just put a hat on, no big deal since I'm not in high school anymore. I just can't wait until its long enough for the bangs to reach the back of the tail. Definitely will not be cutting it this time.
To absalom: yea you are right, way back then I never detangled, I brushed through knots, shampooed many times a week. The dryness, poofyness and the huge knots developing all over in random spots were horrible. Just using water and conditioner has been working really well, while its wet I finger comb to detangle. If I get too much waxy build up on my scalp I'll use a wide toothed comb and comb the scalp. Quitting shampoo was one of the best decisions (besides growing my hair long again =P )

Your hair is wonderful, so thick, healthy and CURLY, such an inspiration for me and the other curly guys here. You've had great growth in just 16 mos. I too have curly hair. I stopped using shampoo a couple of weeks ago and am following a routine similar to yours. I hope my hair looks as great as yours when I reach 16 mos.
