Hello everyone,
Not sure if my last post went through. It's been awhile since my last post. I've been away dealing with a drug problem, (pain pills) I have never been addicted to a drug before and this was pretty scary. I will be cutting my hair this week so I will no longer be a long hair no more. Right now I feel like I need a change. I would like to thank MLHH for all the support. I feel very sad posting this. I have to earn the respect of my friends and family after the ordeal I have put them through with my addiction. This has nothing to do with cutting my hair!! This is my own decision. I have not been happy with my hair and I've just been wearing hats to cover it up, not sure why. I almost lost my job do to drugs. I will pop in from time to time and see all you and your progress. Who knows, I may grow it back! p.s say no to drugs!
Eric.
Fric, Your health and well being are the most important things you need to attend to you. Have enjoyed your posts and will miss them. Get well soon my friend!
peace, jonalbear
Hello Eric,
So sorry to hear about your issues but I'm happy that you are recovering. You are a handsome guy with superb looking hair, also sorry to hear that you are cutting it. I trust that you have given it at least a few weeks thought.
Check back in now and then and let us know how you are doing.
I wish you well. :-)
Max
Congratulations on facing up to your drug problem. So many folks never acknowledge that they even have the issue, let alone do anything about it. Just for that alone, you ought to have a little respect from your family and friends. let them come around at their own pace and just concentrate on your recovery.
Hang in there, Eric. The important thing here is that you "kick the habit". You can always grow your hair back at a later date, if that is what you wish to do.
I want to post a picture that should be a strong reminder of what drugs can do. I hope that I am not out of line in doing so, but anyone that looks at the picture should get the point.
Best wishes,
Jeffrey.
Oh please, sensationalism much? Pain pills arnt gonna make you look like that, meth will, but not painkillers. Most addicts look just as normal as you and me...i know im an addict (as you never are not an addict once you are just a recovering addict)! You dont need to scare the kid... Anyways to the OP, good luck with your rehabilitation and recovery!
Ooooooooooooooooooooook, whatever...
jeffrey.
Hey Eric,
Your honesty and humility are admirable. Glad to see you have "Faced your Dragons" and come out unscorched (although you may be a bit well done.) Each decision takes us on a new path to a new place. Take it one day at a time. Best of luck friend. Da' Bruce'ster
Hi Eric,
As so many have already said so eloquently (except for the one obvious misfit responding to your below post - lol), I applaud you for your courage in facing up to this addiction. I have a niece who has struggled with drug addiction ever since she was 17, and sometimes it has been a horrific nail-biter just to sit along the sidelines while hoping she'll come through. A lot of my favorite dance partners and closest friends are in various 12-step programs for the same or similar issues, --- and they have always told me how lucky I am, because I have an "addictive personality", and could easily fall into alcohol or drug abuse, if not careful. Thankfully, I have listened to their advise, so I feel VERY lucky!!
Do what is best for your health, first.... But, after that, I'd like to make one small suggestion for you to consider:
Instead of cutting your hair ALL off (to whatever degree of shortness you had prior to growing it out), might you instead consider just trimming it back to a more "medium-length"??? You have such a magnificent head of hair, --- and your hair is innocent of any wrong-doing, so why punish IT?!!??!!!???!!!! Maybe you can think back to a particular length that you enjoyed while you were on your longhair journey that brings you good memories, --- in which case, I'd say that this is worth saving at least that much length! Just a thought, anyway...
Regardless of the hair outcome, my best to you, --- always!!
- Ken
I'm sorry to hear you have had to endure this ordeal of addiction, BUT I am happy to see you triumph over it. Also, I'm sorry to see you cut your hair, but if you think it is best, then that is what you need to do. However, I have to wonder if you're cutting it since it was associated with a time of addiction or the cut represents a break with past, unacceptable behavior.
If and when you decide to grow it back, please don't forget us. Also, the board is here for you even if you just need to discuss things. While we all have not kicked a drug problem or ever had one, things and events similar enough to yours happen to us all.
Best of luck and see you soon, Bragi
As I always say, HAPPINESS with one's hair MUST COME FIRST.
If anyone here is not happy with their hair--for whatever reason--then (after thinking about it for a week or two) make the changes necessary to be happy once again.
And just because a guy decides to CUT his hair doesn't mean he is no longer a Longhair. In fact, in many ways being a Longahir is more of a state of mind than anything else.
I'll bet there are MANY guys out there with hair that is just a few inches long (because they just started out on their Long Hair Journey. And so to the world they don't look at all like they are Longhairs BUT inside they do!
ALSO: Good for you for coming to terms with your addiction problem.
We must remember that recreational DRUG taking is NOT a problem for everyone. It seems that--like with alcohol--only 10% of drug takers become truly addicted. You seem to fall withing that category because it is affecting your family and even your job. This means that for you drug taking IS a problem.
It will be difficult. You "friend"--your "inner sun" is going to be taken away and for at least two weeks (the worst part of it) you will be quite depressed. Yes, it will feel like you "lost your best friend." You may feel VERY ALONE--more alone than you have ever felt before. Then, maybe in about a month, you will begin to adjust. Damn it's one of the worst feelings.
Your brain is going to give you hell as the "gaps" cry out to be filled but hang in there. Stay BUSY--even though you may not
even have the courage to put your two feet on the floor in the morning.
Hang in there...you will be in out thoughts. Right now hair is not
very important compared to the challenges ahead.
GOOD LUCK!
Addictions are very hard to overcome, I know on a personal level and whatever you think will benefit your struggle then so be it. Namestea Eric.
It's a shame that you'll ditch the hair, but you gotta do what is best for you. Best of luck with your decision, Eric. We'll all be pulling for you in the weeks and months ahead. Take care. =)

Eric,
Sorry to hear you're leaving but I certainly can understand why. You shouldn't feel ashamed about your problem. I have a very good friend who had a bad addiction to pain pills...so bad that he stole pills from an elderly neighbor. But those of us who know him also know that despite all that he is a great person whose pain was just too much to bare. I think people should hold back their judgement of a person until they've walked a mile in their shoes.
I guess what I'm trying to say is hang in there...your friends and family will be there for you...and best of luck in dealing with your addiction. You certainly have my support and I'm sure the others on the board will offer theirs as well.
Take care and hope to see you again sometime!
Brett
