Hey everyone,
My best friend Adam is a longhair just like the rest of us. But in the past year, he's experienced quite a bit of hair loss...so he wears bandanas alot to cover it up.
Anyway, the last time I saw him, it looked like it was growing back in. He said he's been using rogaine...
I was just wondering what everyone here does to combat hair loss. If anyone has any other product suggestions, or vitamins/supplements that can help, I'm all ears! I'll be sure to tell my friend any ideas...

Hi Peg,
I have been using propecia to deal with mild hair loss from MPB, and started using it 11 months ago (last December). It appears to have helped the crown area of my hair considerably. I posted some comparison photos below in my update just below, one photo was taken 2 months before I started taking propecia, and the latest one was taken on Saturday. You can see the improvement in the photos.
The good thing about propecia is that it gets to the root of the problem that causes hair loss, as it directly slows down the action of the enyme that affects the hair follicles. The best suggestion I have is for your friend to see a dermatologist, who can assess his hair and set up a program to deal with his hair loss.
Hope this helps,
David
Hi Peg, the 2 supplements that I take to promote hair growth are Saw Pametto and MSM. You and your friend should give them a try.

Hey Scott,
What's MSM?
DavidH
It is also called methylsulfonylmethane. It helps in the production of collagen and other connective tissue. It is good for joints. I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome so it helps to protect my joints from injury. MSM just happens to be good for hair as well. The bio-available sulfur that it contains also strengthens hair.

About six months ago I started with 2% Rogaine (the actual brand name minoxidil). Then three months ago I got some 5% Walgreens brand minoxidil. Several weeks back I started having lots of flaking and itching on my scalp where I applied the minoxidil, so I have stopped using it for the past couple of weeks. My scalp condition returned to normal: no flakes and no itching. At this point I'm not sure whether I want to continue using minoxidil. It might be that 5% was too strong, so I need to go back to 2%. As for results, it is difficult to say if it has had any benefit yet. For what it is worth, I always followed the instructions in the box and did not try to overdo the application.

Hi, ive started suffering from mpb on my crown and i started with minoxidil 5% and propecia. Its been 1month and i havent noticed any side effects. My hair is full o little hair with like 3cm growing so my hair looks very bad having shoulder hair and lots of small hair on the middle. My scalp is only noticiable on the crown but i hope it starts to cover itself. I brush my hair backwards brom the middle of the top of my head so no one seems to notice thus far. Hope your friend gets better. hope i get better too....
