I was just watching CMT and these two truckers had these short hair makeovers. both had long hair and then were given very short haircuts.
Now, I'm all for fitness and eating healty foods, but why do these types of shows emphasize short hair makeovers on Men?
Yeah seems make-up artists don't like long hair LOL. I've seen a few, alot of men with good long hair had it all cut off and they were calling it "nasty" and "disgusting" long hair, and I was like WHAT? Because most of their long hair looked good. Oh well, that's hollywood for you.
No taste and no clue!
Cheers,

Most likely this was done as it added the most dramatic to please the audience to actually have something of the one receiving the make-over removed.(With permission ahead of time probably and some $$$$$ to boot.) This is about the most drastic thing that can be done and the thirsty audience loves this sort of thing as nothing can be as drastic as actually cutting beautiful long hair off and leaving behind barely anything. "Drama and shock" are a very good team for these shows.
To NOT please the audience would put an end to these type of shows.
Actually, whenever I read of someone being so upset that so and so who had such wonderful long hair had it chopped-off in one of these make-over shows it rather makes me chuckle as to why they even watch it to begin with.
Solution: Don't watch the show. It is only there as a money maker.
It's an impact thing I imagen. TV producers want someone to look totally different from what they previously looked like. In real life if you go on a diet for a while, you look in the mirror and think "it's still me, just a leaner fitter version of me". But on TV, taking a guy with long hair and a beard and then cutting the hair and giving him a close shave is going to make him look very different and probably "better" in the general publics eyes. I have to admit, some of the people you see on these style makeover shows could do with a tidying up, but that doesnt mean having to cut their hair short. You can have style without being in fashion.

I've watched a few of these shows with my girlfriend and whenever they do a makeover on a woman with long hair they generally trim and style the hair, but with a Man who has long hair they chop it all off usually with the Man ending up with his hair cut quite close around the ears and on the neck area and off the forehead.
this sends a strong message to the masses imho
and that message seems to state that Long hair is acceptable on women, but Long hair on Men is not and that Men should only have short hair.
OTOH, they also hack the women's hair off to no longer than shoulders, which is also supposedly conventional for women.
push to conform to society's standards is what drives
these shows. They try to convince us that we have to look a
certain way to be accepted in society. They try to say
we will have better success if we look a certain way. Maury
Povitch is notorious for these makeover shows. He tries
to convince people that they would look better without
their long hair. I have seen men and women walk in with
waist length to knee length hair and leave with hair just
a few inches long. Many of them are very depressed when
reality sets in. What takes years to grow takes only a few
minutes to destroy. I won't watch those shows any more.

That society will accept various lengths and styles on women, but not Men.
a woman can have waist length hair one day and get a Bob the next and grow it back out without being questioned, but the Men are expected to have short hair and if they have it long these so-called Fashion "consultants" will make some slighttly derogatory comment such as "they're stuck in the `70s" or something else similiar as if Long hair on Men cannot ever be fashionable again.
also, why is it that chin length hair on a woman is considered short, but on a Man it's considered Long? ever wonder about that one?
Short hair isn't the norm in many areas. However long hair is the norm in many areas. Some types of short hair restrictions I can excuse. Like the Military, you don't want hairs getting into your machine gun.
However the desire to conform is a human trait. If Monkey A looks different than Monkey B and Monkey A looks down on Monkey B for being different. Than Monkey B will try to make himself look more like monkey A.
I think it works the same in any society, liberal or conservative; A Facist or communist dictatorship, A monarchy, or a democracy.
