i took a friend to the airport this morning. while we were sitting and chatting for a bit, before he had to go thru security, we did some people watching. what caught my eye was a pilot checking in, and he had hair just past his shoulders. people have questioned whether pilots could have long hair or not, so i though i would share. mayhaps they are letting up a bit on their stiff image?
I used to fly a lot (built up a platinum status with Northwest Airlines!) and I've also noticed more than a few pilots with long hair. A flight attendant on a flight I took about a month ago with KLM airlines also had a mid-back blunt-cut ponytail. I don't think there's really a stiff image that most big airlines are trying to uphold anymore. Remember when one of the only requirements for being a flight attendant was that you're an attractive woman? Oh, and back when they were called stewardesses! Definitely not the case anymore. I've seen a lot of diversity in airline staff.
I blame (and praise) Virgin Airways for this. They showed that stuck up business men weren't the only clients that could afford flights, and made a big deal out of appealing to younger people, who, at the time the airline was founded, had long hair.
Try AA, Untied or BA!
