Hi everyone,
As inspired by so many of the historical photos of some of my fellow members (especially Mark, with his cool photos with his hair in a perm that he posted the other day!), I thought I would share a few photos of my past hair history.
Before my "big cut" in 1999, I had long hair, and it was probably the longest I ever had it. Sadly, I don't have any photos just before the cut in March 1999, but I found an old photo from October, 1998, about 5 months before my cut. At this time, I had no beard, with a moustache only, and side parted hair. The guy in the photo is the guy who encourgaed me to take up golfing, and it was because of golf that I cut in 1999. This photo was taken right after my very first golf game, and I started lessons the following year. My hair in this photo is a bit shorter than my current length, but it is thicker. By March, 1999, it was at its longest, slightly longer than my current length. I cut in mid March, 1999, then started to grow it back in early 2004.
Here is another photo taken when I was very young. (I did actually post this photo before on the hyperboard, but it was buried deep inside another thread, so not many saw it) I am with my mom, and my grandmother (dad's side) in this photo. This photo was taken around the year 1971, when I was 18. Please excuse the horrible jacket in this photo, lol!
This is just a small slice of my past, and thank you for looking!
David
Thanks for sharing these blasts from the past, David! Clearly, you were born to wear your hair long, and you do so very well.
Also, off subject, how elegant your mother and grandmother appear in the photo! Very classy ladies, both.
--Val
Hi Val,
Thank you for your kind comments, and I agree that it is fun to share these memories of the days gone by.
Thank you for your kind words about my mom and grandmother. I was very proud of both of them, and my mom was a talented artist who has painted water colours, oil, and China (porcelian). Sadly, I lacked any such talent of my own.
Thank you again,
David
Great Post David !!
Somewhere along the line, I had gotten the wrong impression that you were relatively new to longhair.....whoops....guess it has always been in your blood....
You favor your mother a great deal and I agree with Validus, she is one classy lady...
Lately there have been several posts of "us" in younger, sillier days.....I am really enjoying it.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Hi Walter,
Thank you for your kind words, and it is true that I have had long hair most of my life. It was only from 1999 to early 2004 that I had it short, and I never plan to have it short again. I learned my lesson the hard way, and use a ponytail on the golf course.
Thank you for your kind words about my mom, and I am always delighted whenever anyone points out they can see a bit of her in me. She was an exceptionally talented person gifted in art, and I was extremely proud of her. She passed away 10 1/2 years ago, in May, 1997, and I still miss her to this day. Sadly, I lack any such artistic talent of my own.
Take care,
David
How lovely...thank you!
Cheers,
John.B
Hi John,
Thank you for your kind words, and I hope things are well with you these days.
Cheers,
David
Hi David,
You know what? You had fabulous hair back when you were 18 and even in the late 90s the quality is exceptional:) One thing is certain you have great hair genes.Judging by the ladies in your last photo both had full heads of hair too.So David I really think you should be proud of your hair in those older pics as maybe the only complaint could be your wardrobe.LOL. Just kidding:)Anyway I'm glad I was responsible in helping you decide to post these fun shots of yourself. As with Chris G. you too have been a great addition to the board and crew.Take care my friend.Mark
Hi Mark,
Thank you for your kind words about my photos from the days gone by. I was not originally planning to post these, but it was your earlier photos that gave me the incentive to share this little "blast from the past"! I did get a laugh out of your "wardrobe" comment, that jacket was dreadful, and I could not imagine wearing it today. YIKES! As for my mom, I was very proud of her talent, and at times I miss her terribly.
Thank you for your kind words about my contributions to the hyperboard as well. I really think this is a community like no other, and am honoured to be able to my part to keep it the fabulous place it is.
Take care,
David
That's amazing, David! Glad to see another longhair who has consistently been a long hair! That just shows you've always come back to it. Which is awesome, imo. Great pictures! Wish I was around back then..!!
Hi Peg,
Thank you for your kind words about my photos! I learned my lesson from 1999 to early 2004 that short hair was not for me, and am certainly happy with my long hair now. Of course, I miss the much thicker hair I had when I was younger.
Take care,
David
Wow David. Thought dated, the photos really scream "true Longhair at heart" to myself. Thanks so much for sharing these older family photos with us. A fascinating look into the past.
As you can see I have done a little monkey work with this new computor trying to see if I could restore a faded colour photo. It came with the computor but is nowhere what I had that went down with the old computor of which programs I hope to get back in a few more weeks.
Take care and thank you for sharing these views of you in the past.
Justin~
Hi Justin,
Thank you for your kind words about my photos. I have always been a longhair at heart, and learned the hard way that short hair was not for me, during my short haired days from 1999 to early 2004.
That is a fabulous job you did with that old photo from 1971! the colurs look so much richer in your version, and I am happy that your new computer is working so well. Hopefully, you can recover some of your other programs from your old computer.
Take care,
David
Wow David you were a longhair for quite some time and wonderul photos if I may say so. I would dig out a few
old pics of myself but when the library of Alexandria burned,
Well that was that I guess.
Kevin
Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your kind words, and I have had long hair since 1971, with the exception of a short haired episode from late 1999 to early 2004. I learned the hard way that short hair was not for me.
I DO hope you can dig up some old photos! About your comment about the Library of Alexandria, I guess I have to see that my photos must have dated from when it was built, rather than when it burned! I am sure I have QUITE a few years on you!
Take care,
David
Hey David, Who's the cute kid standing behind Ida Lupino!
peace, jonalbear
Hi Jonalbear,
Thank you for your comments, and although I don't know if I was "cute" or anything, I was SURE young back then, lol! That is a VERY cool comparison about Ida Luprino, the actress from SO long ago! Ironically, she was born one year later than my mom.
Take care,
David
Great images David, you know I like the one with your family, and that jacket is cool maan, seriously, you look great. Thanks for posting and sharing some of your history.
Regards Dave
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your kind words about my little "blast from the past", and of course, I am partial to any picture of me with my family. I was very proud of my mom, she had a real artistic talent which I lacked. About that jacket, I still find it hard to believe I actually WORE that thing, but fashions DO change, after all, lol!
I enjoyed your little slice of history as well.
Take care,
David
Hey David, wow, what a blast from the past! Bet you are glad that you decided to regrow your hair. Makes me feel like going through some of my old pics to see if I have any showing my long hair from the late 70's. Just need to get a scanning device next...
Keep it growing as you say!
Cheers,
Max
Hi Max,
Thank you for your kind words about my little history lesson, I was inspired by those of some of my fellow hyperboard members, so felt like sharing a little bit of my own.
I will be eagerly awaiting your historical photos as well, and I agree that a scanner is a great thing to have!
Take care,
David
I have seen these before, in your photojournal on LHC. Too bad you chopped off your long locks then, when you started playing golf, just imagine how long you would have been by now. But at least you started growing it back again. The long hair just looks better.
And look at shy teenage David in the typical 70's attire complete with the dorky jacket you wished you never wore, let alone own. Those baby blue eyes really stand out in that picture. You bear some resemblance to your mom, for sure.
I will have to raid my mother's photo albums and see what I can possibly find. All I have here are school portraits, school ID's, driver's licenses and yearbooks.
Hugs to you,
Carol
Hi Carol,
I am so glad you popped in to offer your kind words about my photos, as you always have the sweetest things to say. Of course, I am keeping you in my thoughts, and hope you are recovering from your virus. Naturally, I am always delighted to be compared to my mom, you already know how proud of her, with her wonderful talent, and her beauty.
I will be eagerly awaiting your historical photos as well, and am sure they are very cool. Also, I see you now have an avatar, cheers for you.
Hugs and prayers,
David
The jacket's alright, but it didn't fit you!
Hi Electros,
Thanks for the feedback. You probably DO have a point about that jacket not fitting, but I still have to say that I am not a fan of that jacket today, lol!
David
Wow, David! As far as I can see you've always had long hair. Thats great! I noticed that in one of the photos you look a lot huskier. Looks like you put off plenty of weight since then. Nice photos David, Thanks for sharing them with us.
Hi Chris,
I am so glad you had the opportunity to see my little "blast from the past", and thank you for your kind words! You are definitely right about the weight loss. Before I started golfing, I was around 30 to 40 pounds heavier than today, and lost most of it when I started golfing, and oddly enough, around the time of my gradual transtion to short hair in 1999. (When I cut my hair to short in 1999, it was in stages, starting with one cut in March 1999, then several more, until it was short by late 1999) Fortunately, the hair has grown back, and is now close to the longest I had it, in March of 1999. Even better, the weight has stayed off.
Take care,
David
