well the story is i have been growing my hair since January and want to continue growing it but my hair is very thick. i have been informed by a few sources that if i had my hair thinned out it would lay better and be a lot more manageable. i was just wondering if anyone has had any expeirience with thinning out their hair and could offer me some advice or an alternative.
Your hair looks good and seems to be lying quite well. You will get the odd dissenting view but you seem to be in the 'awkward phase' although it is pretty good. Whilst growing to your chosen length all cutting/thinning does is set you back. Forget about either for another twelve months and then take stock about whther a maintenance trim might be needed.
UK is absolutely right about not cutting until you get some good length. You're in the awkward stage right now and this is the time where trimming is tempting to keep a neat look to your hair. And again, trimming / thinning just does nothing but make the growing out of the awkward phase longer.
I'm just about of the awkward stage myself and I also have very thick hair. In order to make it look presentable, I often used hair gel and brushed it back. Once I had enough hair to make a small ponytail (which your hair is close to long enough now for), then I did that.
Soon after your hair will be long enough to brush the front and tuck behind your ears. Once yo get to this stage, you're almost out of the awkward stage.
Whatever you do, don't cut it until you get out of the awkward stage. You will regret it if you give in to the evil hair mauling scissors.

Hi there, my hair is also very thick, it looked much like yours at the beginning. I got it thinned out and regretted it. I hoped it would become more manageable however because my hair is also wavy, thinning causes some hairs to be shorter than others which causes more frizz due to the hair not locking into curls. I'd advise leaving it, the weight due to length will improve the lack of control.
Long thick hair looks really good, just tough it out. We are men we are pretty good at toughing it out.
I'd just leave it. Thick hair is a pain in the beginning, but it pays off in the end. Mine is thick and it seemed to go every direction but down for ages, and now (16 months from a buzz cut) I'm very pleased with it.
