Here is my hair now. BTW I have a brush now. Boar bristle I think. Someone special picked it out for me.
Excellent achievement, Antesse, ex-cell-ent! The look, colour, sheen, and "bounce", meaning the way that your hair length is strong and holds itself up, is something we here at the board all aspire to. I wish mine was straighter, like yours, as it's much wavier, and thus prone to daily tangles. Ow.
I like all your "product endorsements" in the background, too! (*grinning a grin*) Oh, and BTW, Antesse, didja know that...
I ardhon o adanath thinna, in edhil echuair ad erin Amar. Gil Eru sila do vin min...
Hmn? Didja? I'm sure that ya did. Oh, f.y.i. I'm actually having a kind of elven commitance ceremony conduct'd w/ my betrothed, eventually, whenever we can all get the calendars working in sync w/t presiding elder and our own busy schedules. You rock, Antesse, and your long hair is really lookin' GRRR*! Thank you for posting.
Yours in longhair'd AND elven camaraderie,
Quenyan
Antesse, fantastic update!
"Oh, f.y.i. I'm actually having a kind of elven commitance ceremony..."
So, Quenyan, you're having yourself committed? LOL... just kidding, bro. Congratulations, and have fun :)

Hi Antesse,
What a great update! Your hair is coming along very well, and is healthy with lots of shine. I cannot recall how long you have been growing it, or what your goal is, but I hope you grow it as long as possible.
Keep it growing,
David
Absolutely magnificent! I had no idea that your hair had come to this stage. You should be so proud of your accomplishment.
Just astonishing!
Your hair looks great, and congratulations on that someone special who picked out the brush for you. I guess the culinary skills you displayed sealed the deal.
What caught my eye was the Dune book in the lower right hand corner of the picture. Which one is it? I'd love to get yor opinion on the newer ones by the son vs. the older originals by the dad.
culinary skills? heh...he ordered pizza, does that count? :P
That particular Dune book is the Machine Crusade. I'm about halfway through it and its quite wonderful. I think the son did a wonderful job of picking up where dear old dad had to sadly leave off, though if you are going to read the preludes, its best to start with the Butlerian Jihad as that is the first and is also quite wonderful as well, have not gotten to the House Corino/Atriedes/Harkonnen as of yet.
The ones by Frank are classics and wonderful books, but his son has shown to have nearly as good talent as his father and his books are a very good read.
I have read all the father's six, son's House Corrino, Atreides, & Harkonnen, The Butlerian Jihad, and the Hunters of Dune. I will probably read the last one about the Sandworms when it comes out in paperback.
The House of this, that, and the other books take place right before the original Dune and explain a lot of the backstory. The center mainly on talking about Ix, Geide Prime, and Caladan, Prince Rhombur and such.
I didn't read the Machine Crusade and Battle of Corrin although they have been out a while. For some reason, all the "robot/thinking machine cruelty/cymek storyline/subduing the humans" wasn't doing much for me. I'm not saying they're not good books, but I guess I needed a break from them. I may go back and read them though at some point. I never found out how Salusa Secundus got virtually destroyed and how the humans finally supposedly won out. I won't say more, because the newest two books revisit the return of the thinking machines who have been in "hiding" all this time.
My contention is that while the son's and his helper's books are well-written and entertaining, they don't make you think like the father's books do. The original Dune is my favorite. The plot is so strong and works on many levels. It can be an analogy for oil, drug addiction, and the detrimental effects of power among many things. Even if the first book just stood alone, there is enough there to set it apart. It is a self-contained work that needs little to supplement it. The whole universe the father creates is so thought out and beleivable. Maybe I just liked the idea of the Fremen or something.
The son's books rely so heavily on fantastical elements like the thinking machines and the Tleilaxu to drive the storylines. They are entertaining, but don't quite have the oomph of the father's. His characterizations are good, but rely on already established paradigms to give readers an idea of how to think about the characters. For instance, when you finish the original series, you have a definite idea of who Duncan is as a man. When he appears in the House books as a youth and the newest two in his still-serial ghola form, his character is not expanded, but relies on what's already there. His abilities are the same that he had acquired, such as seeing the tachyon net, etc.
But, glad to hear you like them too though. That series is about the only "new" stuff I've ever read. It's a good break sometimes.
Oh I completely agree with you about the original Dune versus the "new" books...Frank's Dune made you think, heck, the litiny of fear is my own personal motto, something I have chanted to myself nearly as a prayer during really tough times. The new books are good but they are more fleshining out the stories and more typical fantasy style.
So yes, I totally agree that Dune is still leauges better then the newwer books, however I feel his son possess great talent as well and I find his stories to be fun...though yes, the Cymeks do get kind of redundant, but I guess being machines they are redundant to begin with, lol.
1. Someone has to defend my honor. I nominate me and this post. http://www.mlhh.org/archive/?200580
2. You'd learn of my skills if you stopped insisting on cooking for me in my own house and refusing to let me cook.
3. Hi.
ok I take back my joke. Man can cook. Man can cook VERY good. :)
You have come a long way.....absolutely beautiful. You (and someone special) have obviously been taking very good care of it.
Thanks for Sharing

Great hair length... awesome!!!
Hey David
Nice progress man. Your hair has gained some noticeable length by now. It seems very healthy and shiny. I can't recall what your goal length was but I bet it would look awesome at mid back and beyond. Keep it growing and keep up the great progress.
=Chris H
Excellent hair, and you're lucky about the someone special who appreciates the hair!
Good luck and keep growing.
Nice update David looks good.
Kevin
awesome update dude its past shoulder length now congrads and keep up the great growth!
Looking good. Someone special wants you to take good care of your hair; boar bristle brushes are good for distributing sebum, as well as scalp stimulation.

You all (men AND women) who are working in the sciences should consider joining the Luxuriant Flowing Hair Club for Scientists. URL below. I'd join but I'm not a scientist--I just work around them : )
LFHCFS
Maybe one of these days I will. Still have to figure out how to apply.
As a chemist myself, I have also been encourged to join, both here, and at the LHC, by various fellow members. I think you can either nominate yourself or have someone else nominate you, so I have never joined it myself, as there has not been anyone around to "make" the nomination for me. I am not the type to nominate myself anyway.
David
"Johnny was was a chemist, a chemist he is no more. For what he thought was H2O was really H2SO4" ...hehe...little ditty there...
Perhaps we should nominate each other...
Economics counts as a social science, but economists aren't really scientists are they?
And very nice rhyme there Antesse!
heh heh, i have a degree in computer science but the old saying is that if your field has the word "science" in it, it isn't really a science. : )
not sure about economics. I like the idea of you all nominating each other.
A farmer has to have a truly working knowledge of several sciences: Biology, chemistry, physics...
My mom started out in Library Science because it had the word science in it, and it was acceptable for women to study it. Later, though, she indulged her inner scientist and got her MS in invertebrate paleontology.
What am I, chopped liver? (Reaches through screen to grab David and give him a good shaking.) I believe that both nic and I offered to nominate you, we are awaiting your 'scientific credentials'. Ahem. :-P
Annoyingly yours,
Carol
Hi Carol,
Yikes, my apologies about that, I guess I admit I had not thought about it for a while, and I still am not sure if I quailfy anyway, since I am only a chemist and not a research scientist. (only have a Master's in chemistry and not a PhD) I do have my name on a few papers, but only as a co-author.
Sorry again,
David
How do I show credentials? I mean whoever wants to nominate me can nominate me.
According to the website; "Please include a photograph -- or a URL that points to a photograph -- in which the luxuriant, flowing hair is CLEARLY evident. Also please include a URL pointing to your credentials as a scientist."
You need a link to a website that displays your credentials. If you look at members listed, they have school or work related URL's that have a page about them.
Carol
Roger, Roger...um, Carol Carol. I'll photograph my hair and my ID badge for MCW saying I am a graduate student--hope that works.
Damn I had no idea it was this long, looks awesome.
