Okay...I've come to that point that I think many longhairs face: I've been debating whether or not to cut off my hair (ack!).
I'm not real sure what to think, actually. I've had long hair since I was young, so it's pretty much all I know. It's almost getting annoying, and I'd kind of like to try something new...but I'd hate to say goodbye almost. There's strong, mixed opinions from all my friends, and I realize it's really not about what others think anyway.
I guess I'm just somewhat confused. Comments, criticisms, horror stories, success stories, etc would be most appreciated!
I'd wait it out a little more.
I remember someone here saying wait 2 weeks and if you still feel like cutting it then maybe it's ok. But even then, just take a small bit off and see if you like it just in case you regret doing it immediately after.
I can't tell you what to do with yourself, of course, but I will note that I've seen more than a few "I cut my hair and now I wish I hadn't" posts here in the past few months.
I recall one person in the last 6 months who cut their hair and was happy about the decision. There might be more we don't hear about.
Well, last week I felt the same thing. However, I didn´t feel sure enough to actually cut the hair. And now I´m glad I kept it. So just hang on to the two week rule, and of you aren´t completely sure, then don´t do it. :)
Alot of people here will recommend the "2 week rule". If you still hate your hair after 2 weeks, and if you hated it the whole time, then I suppose you're probably best off without it.
I sort of went through a time like that myself, but I considered how long my hair was, too--so I went by a "1 month rule".
Although I had a very good reason for cutting it (it was irritating my skin alot, because I have a certain disease and happened to flare up this whole past summer)... by the time the 1 month was up, I was starting to get better and I no longer wanted to cut it anyhow. All of a sudden, I liked it again. I hope you do too.
Forget any opinions from your friends and defintely use the 2 week rule. I know several guys who cut their hair for girls and then they break up with them. Too many people cut their hair and now regret it. It takes minutes to cut, but years to grow.
Many of the old timers on this board will tell you to wait two weeks before doing anything rash. Post some photos and wait for the responses.....bet you will be surprised.
Keep in Touch and Good Luck

My two major points had been made previously.
1. Two week rule. If each day you decide to cut your hair for 14 days, then get the cut. If any of those days you decide to keep the hair, the 14 days resets. So even if you go 12 days of "chop it off", a 13th day with "you know, I kinda like my hair this long" will revert it back to zero days in the two weeks.
2. What takes years to grow can be cut in much less time. Whether it is long hair or a massive tree, the principle is the same. The oak tree cannot be stood back up after the saw and expected to grow again...and so a new tree needs to grow there which may take a hundred years to get big. Same thing with hair. Hair cannot be reattached and so it must be grown which may take years to get to a length again.
Thanks, guys. I think I'll try and find or take some pics to post and share.
I'm defiantly going to wait until after the new year before I make any dcisions
Some people think long hair is for all, while others think long hair is for a select few. I am a little bit in between. The way I see it, so long as you are not balding, or your face is not feminine, long hair works for you. =P
Two weeks
If all you can remember is long hair, then why not try short hair once? You'll never know if you'd like it unless you try it.
Myself, I didn't begin growing mine until is was 36, so I know what short hair is all about.
