Well, it's been a month since I shaved my head down to the baby-smooth skin. I've attached a picture to show my progress. The "darker" portion of my beard is also a month old in the picture, and I started letting the cheeks grow in about 5 days ago. I'm not committed to keeping the beard, as my facial hair grows so quickly and thickly that I can change it without too much trouble, though I do like to wear one throughout the winter months here in northern Wisconsin. The head hair, however, is here to stay.

Nice to see you setting back on track again, I can sort of understand others saying that it was only a few months, but i would still be very upset if i lost my paltry 7 months.
Good luck mate (ever thought about settign up a website to track your progress, you are a very interestingn fellow and it would no doubt be very interesting to see that)
Thanks, Beanz. Yeah, losing a couple of months growth was worth it, but I definitely would have gone with a "Plan B" if I had much more time into it. I've considered setting up a hair journey website at some point, but would like to have a bit more to show before putting one online.
Thanks for the well-wishes and nice comments. Oh, and there's nothing paltry about your 7 months of great progress!

You sure look like that guy in 300.
"You sure look like that guy in 300."
Quite possibly the coolest thing anyone's ever said about me... thanks, man!

Validus,
your hair is coming in and isn't short for only one month of growth - thick and fast indeed!
I must say that, as impressed as I am with your Shrek costume, I am equally impressed (heck, moreso) with your warm, open, sincere smile in just about every pic you're posted. You are quick to encourage and helpful. Great getting to 'meet' someone like that, even in cyberspace.
I must also say, as a proud and doting father myself, that I am so very impressed at your reasoning for cutting your hair in the first place (and glad taht it got the reaction from your daughter that it did, Shrek).
Thanks for the update, but more importantly, thanks for teh inspiration about what really matters.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Shawn,
Thanks so much for your kind comments :) Your devotion as a father has, likewise, come through in many of your posts, and has been a shining and inspirational example for parents who frequent this message board.

Aaah, Signor Arcane, your hair grows FAST, man! I'm certain that compromising your hair and beard was a unique investment for holiday family experiences and their long-remember'd memories, quite the treasure in and of itself, moreso than the amassing of any bag of Trick or Treat candy or, uhm, even wealth, for that matter.
Say, Val, man, do you have a terminal length in mind? I'm going for belt length, but, hey, that's only because that's the longest it has ever been before.
Best in accelerated hair growth camaraderie,
Quenyan
Quenyan,
My hair growth averages about 3/4" per month during the summer and slows to about 5/8" per month during the winter... and where I live, it's winter for about 5 months out of the year. So yeah, it grows back fairly quickly, and the Shrek experience was definitely worth it for me and my clan.
I don't plan on going for terminal length any time soon, although I've always thought that it would be cool to look old and "wizardly" someday, post-retirement. Until then, the goal is for my hair to reach and remain around my mid-back. Once my hair grows to about 4", it starts to get pretty wavy, though, and by the time it hits 8-10", it forms bonafide curls/ringlets at the ends, so when it does finally land at mid-back, its actual length will be a bit greater.

Hi Val,
Your hair is coming along very well for only 1 month of growth, and you were VERY cool as Shrek! The journey can only get more rewarding from here on in, and I hope you plan to grow it a lot longer!
Keep it growing,
David
Hi David,
I knew I could count on you for encouragement! Thank you for the kind words, my friend.
