I want to grow may hair long and ive been growing it for five months. but it seems like my hair just keeps getting bigger like an afro instead of going down. I have thick curly hair. does this mean I cant grow long hair that goes down? Should i just cut it and go back to the buzz cut?
don't cut it, just be patient and let it grow. Trust me, it will look awesome in a few months. Curly hair looks weird at first but gets better and better the longer it gets.
Let me be the first to give you advice on curly hair.
I used to have really LOOOOOOOOOOONG curly hair, but due to a bad straightening mishap, i had to cut it all off.
well, it got all poofy and afro-like the first year, and now two years later it is alot better.
The thing is, the longer curly hair gets, the weight will pull it down, and it'll be less poofy, it might even be a lil less curly.
it also might seem like your hair isn't growing quite that fast, but believe me, u will eventually see a difference, don't get discouraged...for now let a bottle of hair gel, or some mousse be your best friend.

isnt products like gel or mouse an eney for hair growth, because it damages it and causes all sorts of trouble for example plit ends??
Not all the time...
there are kinds with alcohol that are bad, and then there are kinds that are good.
just dont use the cheap crap.
I have a good friend with hair like yours. It's shoulder length, but he has very curly hair, and it all goes up. I suggest letting it grow longer to see if you like it, it might collapse under it's weight.
Best wishes,
Josh
It'll come down, but it will take a long time.
Here is my timeline to give you an idea:
5 months
8 months
10 months
One year
14 month
16 month (in a half-tail) from front
16 month (in a half-tail) from back
19 month (just about current)
So you see the progression seems slow, but it does move. Don't get discouraged. Keep on growing!

Keep growing it. I also have curly hair and I had to sit through a few months of having a fro, but it grew out long eventually and it actually looks cool as hell long/curly (I've only had it legit-ly long for a couple months myself, actually :P). You just kinda have to pay your dues for a while.
