I just heard on the news that an employee at a local dry cleaning place died when her hair got caught in some mechanism. She was working alone and apparently had a habit of removing clothes from the still moving machinery despite warnings not to.
Those of us with long hair sometimes learn the hard way that it can be a real hazard. Please, always be aware of your hair and potential hazards.
There are some things humans should not do. Having unrestrained long hair and working with machinery do not mix. What makes her even more of a contestant is that she was warned.
Although I have a hard time believing she was killed. I though it could rip your scalp off and cause scarring.
hmm, it seems plausible to me that your hair is enough to support your weight - she might have been dragged into the machine
Our wood shop teacher talked about things like this. Apparently it rips your whole scalp and sometimes things attached to it. It'd likely cause horrible bleeding, infection, probobly stuff like that...
If she was alone, maybe she bled too much...
But i'm not one to know, so don't hold me against it.
Victor, Precisely the reason why I wear my hair under a hat and tucked in my shirt collar at work.
Thanks for your concern.
peace, jonalbear
Yeah, I'm chuckling at the thought of what you might get your hair caught in there. Like heavy metal gates clanking shut, and big burly hands that have spent way too much time in the exercise yard. [grin]

Here is a short news article on the death. Scary.
