Hey guys - I viewed this forum about 2 and a half years ago - and completely jealous of how long everyone's hair was! My name's Anthony, i'm from Sydney Australia and i'm 19 years old.
Just a little back story... My inspiration was actually 'Edge' from the WWE. Lo and behold... I actually have nearly exactly the same hair type as him!
I used to read a lot on here about how bad colouring your hair was (my natural colour is dark brown) - but I find that my hair quality is really soft and well defined. Though I have to agree that it does cause damage, its much harder to comb, with it being coloured.
I have to add though... The bottom of my hair, the most curly part (ringlets hehe) are quite rough at the ends. And these parts actually haven't been coloured. I know curly hair is naturally a bit more prone to damage, but to cut back all the rough on it - it would be almost 1/4 the shaft.
But i digress :P - i'll post a couple pics - some before and afters. I've been growing my hair for about 2 years and 5 months now. I'm looking to have it go down to just below my pecs, its only just now reached shoulder length.
This is me about 3 years ago, short hair, clean cut, and 20kgs lighter hehe
This is me at about 6 months hair growth - ACK! so awkward!
This was me at my cousin Darren's wedding - This is my favourite photo :) It's about 1 year 6 months growth I think.
Took this one about 5 months ago when I got my tatt :)
Right! now, I took these ones last week - my current length, enjoy!
I've been nothing but happy since having long hair. It gave me the confidence to start lifting at the gym too actually. Only a little over a year and a half ago, I was a really thin 66kg teenager, and I'm currently about 86kg. I think thats like from 145lbs to 190lbs, for the american users. I do have some insane stretchmarks though.. as you'd imagine putting it on that quick.
I look forward to posting in the future with more pics of my longer hair :)
Love to hear all your opinions of the mane ;)
cheers!
Long hair suites you extremely well. Your hair type seems fairly similar to mine (except I have to admit yours looks better). Your pictures definitely provide some strong incentives to start going to the gym instead of just lounging around lazily all day.

Thanks mate. love to see a pic of your hair.
Part of my problem was that I wasn't eating as consistenly too. When i started to bulk, I was eating about 6+ full meals a day!! Fast metabolism can be a gift and a curse hehe.
Oh and sorry to all for the size of the photos... I thought I posted the smaller versions on photobucket :)
Another fine mane from the colonies (!) really helps your transiiotn from youth to attractive you man.
I really do like the ringlets - keep growing.
Thanks ;) - looking back at some of my photos from a few years ago.. I can hardly even recognise myself! lol
Ah.. and I used to HATE the ringlets, they looked crap in the awkward stage, but as it is now, I love em! Glad to know they're liked by others too :)
Welcome to the board, Anthony! That's quite the difference over three years, but it has certainly been for the better. Overall your hair looks well maintained and I really do like the blonde color. See you around the board! =)
-James
Heya, I was actually just checking out your link to your long hair site (awesome looking hair now by the way - looks wicked with the ponytail!) and I remember seeing pics of ya when i used to browse this site ages ago, you've come a long way and it looks great.
Makes me wish I had of posted here years ago, but it was already hard enough going through the awkward stage of growth being ragged on at school - I actually got rated 'worst hair' at the end of year 12 ( i admit, i had no idea how to maintain it, i straightened it too often, and used to comb the curls out - but we all learn over time :)), as I thought though, they all think its superb now!
cheers mate, see you around the board
...
Hi,
I really like the blond color you've had done. Did you do it yourself, or have it done? It looks so good that I'd almost say it was worth a little damage to the ends. Your natural color is nearly the same as mine, so I'm just wondering what all you had to do to get it that light.
Hope all is well in Oz. I guess it's summer there.
Matt B.
Heya Matt - I've been getting it done by my local hairdresser. I couldn't exactly tell you what tone they used in my hair - unsure of the peroxides they have available, but I get foils done. I get them spaced out all over (besides the bottom of my hair)- and a few ones here are there to be left in a little longer than the rest to create a lighter affect. So overall, when its all done - plus the natural brown in my hair, it gives it a golden sort of effect.
My conditioner is a godsend though, I think it's loreal.. I usually put a bit in my hair each shower, mostly to the curls.
I'll have to post a picture sometimes of me with straight hair too... I haven't fully straightened it in a few months... I think it would be bloody well long if i did it now! hehe
Hey Anthony Welcome and I'm glad you posted as stories like yours
are cool to see. Your hair rocks and you look the part of a WWE
wrestler. Colouring hair can work if done right and maintained right and looks like you've done that, I like the look.
I look forward to seeing more of your posts and pics, they are a real inspiration to others, especially the part about how happy you are and your gained confidense.
Just curious if I may ask what kind of music do you listen to?
Cheers
Kevin
Ta mate, thanks for the support :) I was actually skeptical about the first time i got it coloured. You cna imagine, after just going through the awkward phase, how daunting it would be to think that it might not turn out, but it worked out better than expected :)
I'll be sure to keep the board updated with some more pics as the hair continues to grow, great to be a part of this community, very friendly and welcoming.
Now... to the music ;) I'm a great lover of all forms of rock and metal. Though leaning towards the metal a bit more nowadays. Went to Gigantour only last month and saw Devildriver, Lacuna coil, Static -X and of course.. MEGADETH! had an absolute blast.
Big fan of older metal too - Motorhead, Megadeth, Anthrax, Fear factory etc.
Favourite band would be Disturbed from the modern era - as you can see by my oh so cool attempt at trying to photoshop myself on one of their album covers ;)
Yup I sort of caught that and why I asked
That was cool.
thanks for your reply.
Cheers mate
Kevin
Great color, great curl! I'm very envious!!
AJ, Simply stunning. Awesome long blonde curls! Welcome and thanks for sharing!
peace, jonalbear
Wow! Just Wow!
You have got some amazing, gourgeous hair, and that tat is wonderful!
Aussie sure knows how to grow 'em, thats all I will say :)
Hi AJCashman,
First of all, I would like to welcome you to the hyperboard, and I am so glad you have found our community.
Your hair looks great! It is very healthy and shiny, and filled with fabulous waves, and the colour is awesome. Keep growing that mane of yours!
Keep it growing,
David
Cheers AJCash!
Great pics of you and what a beautiful mane you have...I'm nearly jealous. Congrats on your transformation hairwise and bodywise...well done indeed. Welcome to the group.
Salud,
Max
Hi Anthony,
First all I'm glad you found the board a couple of years ago annd it's nice to hear your account of how you've been encouraged to grow your hair out. You can certainly see the difference and I'm glad you have built on your confidence. It's always nice to read positive postings here that certainly makes things more positive.
I think you hair looks really amazing now and a wonderful colour and like Kevin.C said, colouring can be done right and and with minimal damage to the hair. So it's not true that everyone down in OZ has blonde locks like in Neighbours...hehehe!
It's great to see that you saw the Gigantour and hope they will do something here in Europe. Of course you should try and come one of the best organised metal events in Germany in August at Wacken. One of the largest in Europe and always so many good bands. Okay Maiden this year but it would be nice to see Megadeth play there to.
I look forward to seeing your update posts over the months and your a great inspiration.
Keep that great mane growing.
Cheers,
John.B
Fantastic display of Manlocks, AJ. The curly ends are great! I think I am looking to get my hair to hang about as long as yours seems to, though I may want more when I get there.
Thanks for sharing.
Shawn (Mr.Crow)
Your post reminded me a lot of myself. I was about 6'0" 145lbs as a teen and now I am 6'2" 195. I also grew my hair out, currently at just past shoulder length, and grew a beard to go with my new body.
Keep it up, I have been there so I am happy for you!
Hi Anthony and a great big welcome to the board!!Well I have to say thats a very cool bio you posted and certainly you made a great choice in growing your hair and working out as well. You certainly look like the total package in that respect. Its quite a transformation from that skinny guy with the short hair.LOL.Its great that you finally decided to make yourself known here as having new longhairs aboard is a great inspiration especially to those newbies.I however am what you may call a veteran longhair being I've had this mop for over 20 yrs. and still love it as if it was my first year of growing.Anyway Anthony thanks for the very cool pics and hope to see you around often.Take care and lookin' GREAT!Mark
Quite a transformation !!
Thanks for Sharing

Welcome to the hyperboard AJ, you've got great looking curls there! I also lurked for about a year before showing my face. At that point I was already at the 6 month mark, well into the awkwards. Keep it growing for sure!
Bruce
Hey Super Hair there! Great wave and color too! What's cool about this board is being able not only meet different people from around our country but also from around the world. Great pics and hope all is good! Take care
Thats some great looking hair AJ. I must admit you have and "Edge" have an uncanny resemblance! :-) Anyhow, welcome aboard and have fun posting!

it's so beautiful.
u r very handsome too.
ur hair got so long so fast.
keep up the good work.
-Dee
Just wanted to say a big thanks to all who left their responses to my original post. This is a great community, and I love browsing pics of all your hair too, i've seen some fantastic locks on here - and some equally cool beards!
Nice to be a success story too :P - I hated my hair in the awkward stage. Hated it hated it hated it; as many do! Mostly because I didn't know how to treat longer hair. Cool to be an example for anyone looking to start up the long hair journey.
By the way, just wanted to add - that the often suggested 'cold water rinse' during showers has made my hair look extra vibrant - as in those recent pictures. Also maintains the frizz as well. Definately recommend giving it a shot to all those who haven't yet tried.
I look forward to posting more soon. I do tend to take a lot of photos... :P
Wow that is some amazing transformation!! Both in the hair and in the physique. If anybody can use the word mane to describe their hair you can, that color and length and the ringlets truly look beastly :) Very unique and very cool! The facial hair and everything
I am even more impressed by the mass you put on. I am a really skinny guy more like you were and many years ago I used to work out, including weights but I never seemed to gain any mass at all. Did you take any special drink powders or anything like that to gain more mass or did you do it just by lifting? I am curious because I would like to get some more mass myself sometime (when I get back to regular exercise again) Thanks!
Oh, and welcome to the site BTW LOL!
Thanks greatly for the compliments, a few people joke around and call me "Mufasa!" - lion king reference lol, they think It can look very lion like hehe
About the weight question. What I did was amp up the diet, A LOT. Which did include a mass gainer. Was a fairly expensive one too, about 150 bucks for 3kg's... but I only used it for roughly three months. each bucket gave about a months worth. You'll find that 80% of bulking up is eating right. 10% is sleep. 10% is lifting. Naturally you have to lift, and in a regular pattern, but there won't be any gains without the right balance of food.
I went on a diet where I was eating roughly 6 full meals a day. 2 of which were included in the shake. If you are a skinny sorta fella like I was, you could go with a shock to the system. Carbs and Protein go hand in hand when you are bulking, you need a lot of both. A good rule of thumb for protein intake - in grams, is 1.5x or so your bodyweight. So Say im 190lbs now. (86kgs). Times that by 1.5. I would require 285grams of protein for a mass bulking diet.
To put that in perspective if your not aware on ratios - the mass gainer shake had about 36grams of protein in it, and thats one of the highest sources youll find in protein. Hence why you gotta eat, and eat a lot :P
A final point on lifting weights as well, I lift every three days, and I lift to a weight where I can perform 8 reps or so of a particular exercise until failure. When you want to bulk, its best to start off heavier. The more weight your curling or putting up, the more its shocking them into growth.
I could type for a million years on the subject hehe, I'm at university doing sport and exercise science, so its always helpful to provide advice for my own learning as well :)
Everyone is different though, and this is just personal advice. Best to get an assessment from a personal trainer before starting a moe intense diet/work out session.
cheers!
