For years now I have been catching hell from friends and family for wearing my hair and beard long. I often get dirty looks from complete strangers. I have plans to compile a small booklet that includes pictures and a short biography of famous men throughout the ages who have worn their hair long. Whenever I am criticized because of the way I choose to wear mt hair, I will show people the book. I hope to have many examples of outstanding human beings to share so that I can break the unfounded associations that people make to long hair on men. Some examples that I have in mind so far include Jesus, Moses, any number of saints in the Catholic church, Hippocrates, and Santa Claus. I am choosing these people because they were long haired men and at the same time are the men revered most by the very people who give me a hard time. I hope to create an attitude of tolerance and acceptance for long haired men. I would appreciate any help in this matter. If the men you wish to add wore beards too, that would be all the better, but not neccessary. Thanks.
Don't forget the signers of the Declaration of Independence! Marks below show those whose hair falls well over their collars, and some of them have ponytails. Quite a few of those that are not even marked have hair completely covering their ears. Signer "A" has hair falling well below his shoulders on both sides of his neck, and signer "B" has a long ponytail tied with a bow. Take a high-powered magnifying glass to the back of a two-dollar bill, and the long hair on these men is unmistakable.

Also note this depiction of the signing of the Constitution. Some of the long hair you see is probably wigs, but some also appears to be the real stuff.
May not be a good idea. A while back Paul Harvey did
a follow up on the signers of the DOI. Most of them
ended up having major fall out from their signing.

I would start off with Jesus. He would
probably be the most persuasive.....
Best of luck.
You should also include the great scientists like Isaac Newton, Boyle, Pascal, Einstien and so on.

The degree of acceptance of long hair varies from time to time. I believe that in this present society, long hair acceptance is obviously very low, if not discriminated against. You'll still get drubbed for showing non-believers those photos/pics you painstakingly complied, and this will further lower your self-esteem.
Why not be content with your own long hair, have confidence in yourself and who knows, you might be the next famous personality with long hair? (especially more so in a predominantly anti longhair society).
We must be proud we have the courage to live for ourselves, not in the shadow of others :)
Peace,

When I think of famous people with long hair, or a time when long hair was widely accepted, I think of the 18th century and the men of the Revolutionary period.
Isn't it funny how Christians will look down upon long hair on men, when the man they revere most had long hair?
The man they revere most was also Jewish. But the Christians didn't seem to think that was any reason to avoid killing Jews in the Crusades.
I know that he is fictitious, but how about Uncle Sam!
