I would like to get some feed back from guys who go to the salon toget a roller set. I am also bashful and want somes tips. I am wanting to go and find a place that will be comfortable and then make a regular habit of going.I enjoy setting my hair at home and do it about 3 or 4 times per week.

So I'm sitting at my salon the other day while my hairdresser puts my hair up in velcro rollers and she asks "So you're comfortable sitting here in curlers?" I said sure, why not, and, along with her assistant (female) and the proprietor (male, gay) we got into a pretty interesting conversation about men & hairdressing. She pointed out that plenty of men get perms, have their hair colored, highlighted, etc. but that roller sets remain a kind of last frontier. In fact, she said, a set on a man usually looks too, well, "set," but that she liked the way mine turned out. She said that the staff had commented the last time I'd been in for a set on how refreshing it was to see a man having his hair rolled, and that there were a few raised eyebrows, mostly among the customers, but that in general everyone thought it was terrific. By this time I'm sitting under the dryer in jumbo velcro rollers and ended up talking to the women (20-something) on either side who were getting similar sets, about how often we use rollers, the advantages of hot rollers versus velcro, how to keep it from looking too bouncy, etc. Neither of them said anything about my gender--it was just 3 people having their hair done.
