Hi, i was browsing the internet about longhairs when i eventually stumbled upon this msg board. I'd like to post images of my journey here to show men that there is so much diversity within longhairs. To give prospective longhairs that oomph to join, would be great.
The pictures here span about 2 years. Starting from my short "spiky" look to a semi recent longhaired look in november 07. I have yet to take any recent pictures (though i should) since my hair has grown several inches since then.
The beginning. This is my style about 2 years ago. The reason why i decided to let my hair grow; Is multi-factored, but mainly because of my girlfriend.
1:I love the look women have with long flowing hair and i was very sad when my girlfriend announced she wanted to get a "pixie" cut. In retaliation, i warned her i would grow mine long if she dared to cut hers. (she had stated her dislike for longhaired men on numerous occasions) Disregarding my warning she got the pixie i grew mine out.
Funny side note, she has become completely infatuated with my long hair now to the point she (jokingly?) threatened a break-up when i said i was going to sport a shaved head.
2: i have grown tired of being like everyone else. I work (and live) in a predominantly asian sector of queens NY, and have come to notice how cookie cutter many of the males are. Looking at a group from the back, no one stands out. They all have "asian fades" (i did too) and are quite hard to distinguish without looking at their faces.
I always pride myself in being different. Definitely not a person who jumps on trends or likes riding the bandwagon.
Hi swidjaja
Welcome to the board... no other site attracts more male long hairs than this one or helps nurture future long hairs!
When women say they dislike long hairs... I think to myself they are thinking of long, dirty and untidy long hair which isn't good! but if you look after it correctly I'm 100% certain they will love it
... after all how many men with great long hair exist out there? not many!! in contrast to the world population. Women do like unique individuals! and there was a study conducted recently that men with feminine features make better long term partners than those with more of the masculine look.
and its great to hear you are an individual. I strongly dislike blending in with the crowd or following mainstream fashion. If every guy had long hair on the planet I would probably and ONLY then consider going back to short hair.
I can't see your picture.. my recommendation is to use photobucket.com and upload your pictures there then click on the image URL and directly paste it here. Thats what I just did with my 1 year update pic
Peace
Ryan

I'm the one on the left. If not for my effort to individualize my "spikes" im sure i would look exactly like many many other men.

just getting to here took several months. As you might guess from my attire, The first picture was taken during the summer and this one is around winter. At this point my hair was noticeably longer but nowhere near the point to be considered a longhair.

approximately 3 months later. I believe this one is from late winter to early spring. I kind of liked the way my hair was turning out, but i was starting to feel discouraged. I thought that my hair was growing way too slowly and that it should have been longer at the time. Also, i felt that women weren't approaching me as much. For whatever reason it was, i blamed it on my transitional hair. It was getting to long and heavy so i couldn't give my hair a semi-spiked look that i thought would ease the short-long transition. As shown by the next picture. Not being able to defy gravity didn't stop me from trying.

for some reason i stopped taking pictures at this point. i don't know exactly why but if i had to give a reason, i think it was due to a lack of self confidence. I didn't really feel to attractive with my awkward hair, and I wasn't too excited about capturing that moment in time with a picture.
Why didn't I give in and cut it you ask? SPITE! That may not be entirely true, but it did make it easier to keep the scissors away from my head. I was so intent on "punishing" my girlfriend that I felt I couldn't just give up halfway with her really suffering.
Also, I started getting into asian pop culture at around this point. If there were any demographic that has an overwhelming amount and or preference of longhaired men, I must say that asian would be a likely candidate. If you look at the popstars, singers, actors, dancers, and heartthrobs in asian culture, you'll see an overwhelming amount of longhairs. With a great degree in variance to boot! I remember when i was in Japan, i could give an estimate of about 65-70% of young men who had hair at least to the nape of their neck. Of course, the women there completely loved the look of longhaired men.

Taken in september. What a jump huh? My hair has fleshed and finally reached the point of being able to get into a ponytail. Although i rarely style my hair these days, (i find it easier to throw on a beanie)this is how it looks with some hair wax in it.

another look, from the back, hair up into semi-ponytail.
So, what kind of attention have i been getting now? Well, my girlfriend for one, absolutely loves my hair now. It's so funny really, i feel like I'm Justin Timberlake in front of a preteen girl. My girlfriend gets all flustered and gets a bad case of the butterflies, despite being with me for several years now. When my hair is normal, she loves running her hands through it (it currently is at least a few inches longer then it was in the last picture.) She also really likes to do my hair! After i shower, she likes to give me the whole spa treatment. (the stylist in her?) She takes her timing blow drying, brushing, combing, apply her crazy serums, oils, creams etc and she thoroughly enjoys it. Which completely bewilders me. I like my hair, but i don't like fussing with it.
As far as other women go, I have gotten so much attention lately. haha, it's kind of giving me a big head. One woman for example shared this convo with me
her: hey, you're so hot what's your name
me: shawn, thank you for the compliament
her: you busy? come with me and let's get a bite
me: ty, i really appreciate it, but i have a girlfriend
her: it's ok, i don't mind, and i wont tell her
me: wow, you sure are straightforward.
her: yes, that how i get what i want
me: i'm really flattered but i'm sorry, i am not an unfaithful person. i don't mind making friends, but if you are thinking of getting further then that with me, you're just going to be wasting your time and money.
her: thats fine, lets go eat
she actually ended up being a friend of mine for a little while. However, i don't speak to her anymore. she has actually stopped calling me. I guess she didn't think I meant that i am a faithful person. Then i finally dawned on her, and she gave up. Who knows?
The future. What do I have planned for my hair? Length, and lots of it. My goal is to have a nice long ponytail on the top back of my head. Long enough to be able to have a tie (at least 3inches) around it, really lifting the tail off of my head and then having the hair extend down to about my mid shoulder blades.
I'll try to get a follow-up pic with the current length and this really cool beanie that took me forever to find. It has an opening in the top back of it so i can have my ponytail sticking out of it. With a little product to splay the end of the ponytail, I kind of look like a really cool pineapple.
