Hopefully some of you technowizards can help me...I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 530 from Staples. The unit comes with media card reader slots...I have tried to download pictures from my Canon camera by inserting my memory card (CF) into the CF/MD slot with no results. I went to the Dell website and downloaded a 32 bit card reader application. I still cannot get my pictures transferred using the CF/MD slot. Any ideas? Any info will be helpful. You can reach me also at beachbum90742@yahoo.com. Thanks!
I know that with my niece's camera, if you do not format the memory card in the camera before useing it, the pictures will not upload to the computer. This is true even if she swaps the card with her sister's camera (one's a Panasonic, the other Kodak). When I borrowed her camera, I made sure I formated the card every time I put it in after uploading the pictures.
Hope this helps.
Bruce
I am able to download my pictures by using a "card reader" with a USB cable...not sure why I can't download by inserting camera memory card into the computer's CF/MD slot. Perhaps someone else has an idea.
Buy a white box. I hate proprietary systems.
If you do not have photo editing software such as Photoshop, you may have to use Canon's software. Go to the link below for a forum discussion with several folks having similar difficulties as you.
Good Luck !!

It might be that the computer is not reading the card automaticaly. Try clicking on "my computer" on the desktop and see if you can see anything labeled removable drive, if so try to open this drive to see the pictures. I know with my computer, it looks at the cards as being another disk drive.
Good luck!
Just plug it into a USB and you are ready to go.
Are you sure you're inserting the card into the right slot?
Are you fully inserting the card?
Also are you sure you're inserting it correctly? (not backwards?)
Finally have you formatted the card?
Also when you take photos on the camera, are you sure you
have it set to put the photos on the memory card and
not the camera's internal memory?
Finally are you sure your're using the right memory card for
the camera?
One other thing...What size is the card? When i got a new 2gig sd card to use in my camera, my HP notebook couldn't read the card, it read 1 gig cards fine, and read anything using a plug in card reader. The solution was going to the HP website and downloading the driver updates to allow the built in reader to read the larger cards. I'm sure Dell has similiar resources available on it's site.
That's true, I have a card reader bay on my computer that'll read up to 2g SD memory cards, but not the 4g SD/HC card.(high capacity?) I have to use the usb plugin reader that came with the card.
